Haha, no and the sad/cool thing is he came up with those rankings independent of me. I told him I was sad he put BYU so low. I guess it's those unspoken family undercurrents he's picking up on.

I just think Davies means so much to this team. With him, we were a patchwork team inside that could barely hold up strong enough to enable our amazing guard line to hang with anyone. Without him, our inside game completely falls apart and it's enough that any team with strong, physical inside players will be very tough to beat.

You are the antithesis of LiveCoug. He's mr. positive until the game starts, and then the world is collapsing as soon as we're down a bucket. You are Davie Downer from the moment the final buzzer sounds until the next tip-off, but as soon as the game is going, you like our chances.

I like you both, and I get a kick out of the emotional swings.

Yeah, I'm a little like that, but I usually am on the optimistic side of things even leading up to a game or season. I'd like to see a similar poll right now as the Vegas Football Poll for basketball. Let's watch the Vegas lines for the next couple games, and I'll bet the spread is more indicative of a #30 team than a #8 team.

By the numbers, Davies is not a important. He was a non issue in the sdsu game and more often than not, I find myself muttering how immature he is as a player.

This tourney is great for us as a precursor and I say: bring on the mutha f-ing lobos

Davies has turned into a pretty decent rebounder and is BYU's only legitimate back to basket scorer. BYU can get paint points against shitty teams by Kyle Collinsworth and Chuckie Ab-WOW slashing, but that will be difficult to do against good teams.

If BYU shoots poorly they become a pretty average team in a hurry, not to mention the offensive boards they will give up to good offensive rebounding teams.

Byu lives and dies by its fg%.

Davies is not good enough to make up the difference

With Davies out BYU has 10 scholarship players playing. Forty percent are comprised of Nick Martineau, Brock Zylstra, Logan "Strong Man" Mangusson and James "Big Game" Anderson. Trust me on this one, Davies matters like size!

Davies' inside scoring ability forced teams to at least consider the middle of the court. BYU becomes easier to defend without Davies. Ignore the post and sell out against the jumper. This forces BYU to penetrate and while Chuckie and Kyle could do that against WYO, methinks that will be hard to do against anyone seeded 12 or higher in the NCAA tourney.

However, Jimmer and Jax can go off at any time.

Bingo. If our national player of the year starts draining them from plus 25 feet then Lord Magnusson is going to find himself open and offensive rebounding much easier

My point is that Jimmer and the other shooters become easier to defend when the opponent does not have to worry about Davies in the middle.

I dunno. Jimmer has proven capable of hitting anything from nearly anywhere. He is the second coming of Bird.

                          NM was a fluke

I think there will be one guard on each team we play who can stay in front of Abuou (after the best defender is assigned to Jimmer) but most teams won't put that guard on Abuou. They put that guard on Jackson mistakenly believing he can dribble with his left. Basically, Abuou is guarded by the 3rd best wing. In the past, help came from the 5 guarding the block because Abuou can't pass. No longer.

On KC, there are 3 or 4 PFs in the country that will stay in front of him if we spread it out and drive the ball.

Let's look at SDSU for an example of why I think we will make a run if we can gel quickly. They are a very good defensive team and a perfect example of "long and athletic."

Leonard, Gay, Thomas, White and Tapley are their starters. If we play them again, Thomas guards Noah and will be effective if he doesn't cheat but that takes him out of the paint and his shot blocking goes with him. They will guard Jimmer with some combination of Tapley, Gay, Leonard and White but they probably start with Tapley on Jimmer and Gay on Jax. Now, Leonard and White can guard Abuou and KC but they can't do it while also doubling Jimmer.

Bottom line, the only thing that keeps us out of the Sweet 16 or farther is how well we shoot the ball.

I don't think the #3 team in the nation needing 52 from Jimmer to beat UNM in a close game proves your point.
