  • Official MWC tournament thread

For those who haven't been to the MWC, you should go. I always have a ton of fun and almost always see some fantastic basketball. As I mentioned in another thread, don't believe that there aren't tickets available. There are tons of tickets, just not reserved lower bowls. Scalping is not only readily available, it is almost encouraged. Bottom line- saddle up and come ride along with Jimmer one more time.

CMBF posted a nice breakdown of possible scenarios effecting BYU. If BYU doesn't win in San Diego and can't capture the #1 seed, we need to be rooting very hard for UNLV to finish behind CSU for two reasons. 1) Opposite side of the bracket and has to face SDSU in semis. 2) The would play the Thursday early afternoon game - the TMC is lifeless for those games. In fact there will probably be as many fans from other schools collectively as UNLV fans. It really negates the Rebels home court advantage.

If UNLV makes it to Friday versus SDSU or BYU and especially if they are playing on Saturday, the arena turns into a 2 hour marathon chant of Reeeeeee buuuullllls. Unfortunately, whatever team BYU is playing ALL the opposing schools start cheering for. I expect to see a lot more blue this year, though

I just found out I have a conference in Vegas that weekend. I'm hoping to catch some games.

I purchased my tickets a month ago. They don't send you your tix til' 2 weeks before the tourney which is a little annoying, but oh well.

I typically go down every year and this last year is going to be a lot of fun. Our last Tourney in the MWC, with Jimmer in tow, it will make for a unique and fun atmosphere.

If any of you are still looking for a room I forgot to cancel the room next to mine at the Marriott Suites by the convention center. $85 a night plus taxes and fees. You may be able to stay for less somewhere else but this is a very good hotel and a decent location. If there are no takers no biggie. I can cancel up to a day before I check in.

Upper bowl tickets going on sell this week. Remember the more BYU fans in attendance the less Rebel fans there will be.

Do some people already have tickets in hand? The ten I ordered won't be sent from the fair city of Laramie until 3 weeks prior to the MWC, which is next weekend. I would guess they won't arrive untiil Feb 23-25. I keep hearing rumors of people buying low and selling high. Are they selling the actual tickets or just rollin' like 71 and selling futures?

I have actual tickets in hand from New Mexico. They come in a neat little booklet. Womens games and play in game (pay attention Ute fans) are General Admission. All other games are assigned seats.

We are section 114 row F. I think that is about the 12th row however the guy at the THomas and Mack said with that new wall up we may be lower than that.

That is 6 rows up from the bar, and I think there are 11 or 12 below the bar. Word on the street is that they will take out the first 4 or 5 rows from below the bar, so you're probably looking right at 11th or 12th row, like you say. I actually prefer to be above the bar where you are, because the sight lines below the bar are pretty bad because the slope is too gradual.

You bought through WYO? Maybe we'll be sitting together.

But were either of you already a long time Cowboy club member, thus (hopefully) getting you better seats?*

There is a man who seems to share my name, in Cheyenne, who will need to change his mailing address back from his new WA residence after the tournament.

I asked a friend who is like the Phil Knight of Wyoming, so if I have worse seats than you I am going to ship him a box of poop.

I have never been to the tournament, and hadn't been planning on it this year, but last night a guy in my stake mentioned that he and a couple of others were thinking of heading out. Then, this morning, my boss e-mailed me asking if I wanted to attend a conference in Scottsdale on March 7-9, a scant 5 hours from Vegas. This might be a sign that I am meant to be there.

After Saturday the tournament seeding should be pretty clear. CSU will lose to both SDSU and BYU, however if UNLV loses in the Pit they would drop to the 4 seed and the Rams would snag the 3. Utah is in good shape for the 5th seed though could drop to #7 if they lose out and AFA wins out.

Adjust your travel plans. BYU plays at noon on Thursday. On opposite side of bracket from UNLV and SDSU, unless Utah screws BYU by beating UNLV in the final game of the year.
