With Utah's win over TCU, we're officially halfway through the MWC season. Let's have a look at the standings and see where everyone stacks up.
SDSU 6-2 (2 road wins, no home losses)
Utah 6-2 (2 road wins, no home losses)
BYU 5-3 (2 road wins, 1 home loss)
UNLV 5-3 (2 road wins, 1 home loss)
UNM 5-3 (1 road win, no home losses)
TCU 4-4
Wyoming 3-5
CSU 2-6
Air Force 0-8
Of the road wins, SDSU probably has the most impressive over UNLV, but that is mostly because it cancels out UNLVs win @ BYU.
SDSU gets 5 home games in the second half but they have to go to Utah, UNM and TCU.
Utah has to go to Provo & UNM, but they get UNLV and SDSU at home. If Utah can get a win in Laramie this weekend, they should have a good shot at getting to 20 wins which might be enough with their RPI to get them in the dance.
BYU gets Utah and UNM at home, but has to go to UNLV and SDSU. If they hold serve at home and can steal one of those big road games, they're right back in it.
UNLV has some bad road losses @TCU and @CSU already. They just dropped a home game to SDSU all but negating their win in Provo over the Cougs. They now have to go to Utah, SDSU, & New Mexico this weekend. They could easily lose all three of those games.
UNM is the unknown in all of this. They've played pretty well on the road and already have a home win against BYU. They get UNLV, Utah and SDSU all at home in the second half of the season and their only truly difficult road game is @ BYU. They could very much be in the thick of this.
As has been said before, If someone can get out of the second half of conference play and finish 13-3, they'll win it outright. Otherwise, we'll have a log jam of 12-4 and 11-5 teams.
If UNLV somehow falls to that 4/5 game, I wouldn't want to be the #1 seed in the conference tourney.
