I stand by Indy on this, mostly.

But like I said earlier, the MWC went from a pretty good BB conference to a lame one by losing Utah, adding Boise, UNR, and Fresno and going to divisions thereby reducing total games against SDSU-UNLV-UNM.

So it's a step down, but not as big as it seems.

It would be hard to argue this move isn't a step back in basketball. But I agree with you that it's not as large a step as some are making it.

I couldn't disagree more. A 25-6 BYU team is a lock for an NCAA bid. Hell, a 23-8 team most likely makes it in.

With a better nonconference schedule, of course. But if you're counting on St. Mary's having a top-50 RPI or Portland having a top-100 RPI on a consistent basis, that's an awful lot to ask. And the bottom half of the WCC is dreadful.

This is certainly a step down from the MWC in basketball and while Rose is probably saying all the right things about how he excited about the ESPN exposure, he probably isn't thrilled about this move. However, the WCC isn't that much worse than the WAC.

I'm not too worried about basketball. Why wouldn't we be able to schedule annual non-conference games with the likes of UNM, UNLV, and SDSU, and a home and home with USU?

The bottom of the MWC is just as dreadful as the bottom of the WCC. Especially given the additions of the pathetic BSU and Fresno programs.

I'd have preferred to stay in the MWC for BBall and for football. But I can't pretend that the MWC is the great BBall conference that some are making it out to be. Gonzaga has been out-recruiting everyone in the MWC for a while.
