Will Going Pac-12 Hasten or Delay Boylen's Departure?

I think Utah just became a lot more attractive job, particularly for an up and coming coach. I think unless there is big improvement this year Boylen will be done. I think he is a good enough coach, but his ability to recruit in the areas and in the ways that have made Utah successful in the past is almost non-existent. I think the next coach will be a west coast guy, perhaps with Pac 10 connections or assistant coach experience.

The St. Marys coach could be in play now. Having said that, I think Utah still gives him 2 years.Originally posted by UtahDan View PostI think Utah just became a lot more attractive job, particularly for an up and coming coach. Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Basketball is a different story from football. What more can Utah offer/accomplish as a BCS basketball program compared to being a non-BCS program? New Mexico can earn a 3-seed and spend most of the season ranked in the top 10. BYU can spend the season ranked and earn a 5-seed. Gonzaga has no trouble raking in very good prospects and earning high seeds on a yearly basis.Originally posted by UtahDan View PostI think Utah just became a lot more attractive job, particularly for an up and coming coach. The prestige doesn't change with a move to the PAC-10. The opponents change, and in 7-10 years the facilities might improve, but this won't have as much of an impact on basketball like it does for football. IOW, I don't necessarily agree the job is more attractive to a higher caliber of coach."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

These are valid reasons, but they arise because in basketball, THERE IS A PLAYOFF. In three years when there is a playoff in football, the same thing occur on the gridiron.Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostBasketball is a different story from football. I really hope you are wrong. I want no part of a playoff in college football. I didn't want one before the Utes were in the PAC-12 and I want one even less now.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostThese are valid reasons, but they arise because in basketball, THERE IS A PLAYOFF. Utah would have to be even worse than last year for Boylen to lose his job.Originally posted by DrumNFeather View PostThe St. Marys coach could be in play now. Having said that, I think Utah still gives him 2 years.Col. Klink: "Staff officers are so clever."

I totally agree, I just think that for a coach like that, a move to Utah makes more sense in the Pac 12.Originally posted by USS Utah View PostUtah would have to be even worse than last year for Boylen to lose his job."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
