Butler more impressive than Utah?

I love the argument about who is the better 2nd place team. Utah has held 2 parades when they have finished 2nd. After the 98 final four and after the Sugar Bowl. They have learned to embrace 2nd place and treat it like 1st place.

By the way calling this a Butler home game is kind of weak, I bet Duke had a larger student section as BUtler only has 4,000 students.

That was a great game. Butler's at a great disadvantage when the ref's let the game get that physical. Duke's a lot bigger and stronger and deeper. That Butler team was fun to watch. That coach is going to end up at a top 10 program and be a fixture of the game for a long time.

Their competition was just as good as what Utah faced. Butler beat a #1 and #2 seed and almost took out another #1 seed.

As has been stated before, Butler was more impressive.
I really think this is a silly debate, but since people are throwing out facts and opinions on the subject, I thought I'd join in.

The Kentucky team Utah nearly beat was ridiculously talented. This was the year after they lost a couple of guys to the NBA off of that re-donkulously talented '96 squad which has had nine guys off their roster in the NBA.

        '96 squad: http://www.secsportsfan.com/kentucky...l-history.html

With all of the early defections to the NBA since, I don't know if there has been a team that talented. Some of those UCLA teams come close with 4 NBA guys.

Plus, the Arizona and NC squads were pretty talented as well.

On the flip side, Utah had 3 players off of that team play in the NBA. It'll be interesting to see how many of these guys on the Butler team play in the league. They have some really good players.

So, it depends on what you mean by "impressive"?

Unexpected? Butler started the season in the top 10 and beat Ohio State. Utah had made several deep runs into the NCAA tournament in years prior and was consistently ranked in the top 20.

Beating tougher competition? The NBA has stolen a ton of talent from the NCAA ranks starting around the mid to late 90's, so there isn't as much talent now. I agree that this in theory affects both teams, but in reality, the big boys like D00k, UNC, KU, and UK are going to lose players on a more regular basis. Plus, you really can't count the NBA guys until 4 years after the game has been played, so we won't really be able to judge the talent level of this game for a couple of years.

You, on the other hand, have no idea what it feels like to climb that mountain and stand on the summit and go mano a mano with the best in the game. You have to content yourself with your team's pathetic little regional half-successes (it can't even seem to win an MWC title any longer), thrilled at having beaten a bad Florida team in overtime.

I think I am going to buy this for you:

Also last I checked you were not a player so you also have no idea what its like to stand on the summit and go mano a mano with the best in the game. You have to be content with living a life of lies and continuing to deny what ou know is right which is the gospel of Jesus Christ.

There is something hilarious about posting that shirt then claiming you live the gospel of Jesus Christ. I guess I missed the part of the gospel where Jesus said, "I love winners, all others can suck it."

Too bad BYU hosted firesides for apostles who said blacks were cursed all those years or they'd have a bigger recruiting base and might have a chance to play in a place like the Sugar Bowl or the Final Four.

You put your kids to bed at 6:00 pm to go to a bar to drink scotch (?) and root for Duke for the sole reason a Butler win would somehow take away from the Utes 2nd place finish that occurred 12 years ago? I hope you like the polyester tie coming your way for Father's Day.

I was teasing SU, which I assume he knows because I like him. Your post seems to be hitting below the belt, perhaps mine did too and I will delete it if SU finds it offensive.

Junkie is what is known as a BYU football Mormon. He's not very Christlike, as Comrade notes.

SU likes to be hit below the belt. Mister Crimson punched him once there and SU just smiled!
