I think that if it comes to having to find a new coach, they might have to start looking for stepping-stone type guys to try and ressurect the program (assuming Boylen can't...which is not an assumption I'm ready to make). Then, if a guy leaves for a bigger or better job, you bring in someone that might want to stick around a little longer, but at least you've got the players in place...which has not been the case for Giac or Boylen.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

That would be a good hire I think. Do Rahe, Connor or Rupp get anyone in the fan base excited?

Connor gives MPFunk Napper-esk stff nipples because of his connection to Majerus.

I could get behind Randy Rahe I think, but I would still want them to take a shot at a Blaine Taylor or the coach from St. Marys.

Hell, they might as well just hire Alex at this point. He's what, 34 years old? At least he has some connections outside Utah, and he knows Utah.

Plus you'd get immense satisfaction at BYU fans most UNclever use of old nicknames. I'm sure he's learned more than a few things from big Rick in his time in St. Louis. He appears to be covering up a bad taco experience in this recent photo, an old Rick special.

While I enjoy your shot, lets recall one thing, where Utah Athletics was when the good doctor arrived and where it is now. Now we'll look ay BYU athletics in the same period.

Your football is better and your hoops team is slightly worse.

Personally, I just love to rub in the exuberant use of the word genius. There was a time you liked to do likewise. Hopefully it works out better for me 6-7 years after!

Van Horn seemed to soak up everything from Rick, maybe he'd like to come back to SLC.

They need a Whittingham that understands Mormons and the connection to BYU. Sadly I don't think there is anyone that fits that bill in the basketball coaching world.
You've always struck me as an execption to the rule that BYU fans are stuck on this snapshot in time. Tell me again about Oregon's magnificent BCS bowl moment against Colorado back in 2001.

I think up until now, Boylen has been loyal to his players to a fault. I stil lremember during his introductory press conference, he emphasized that the guys on the team at the team were HIS guys. I liked the loyalty then. Then I heard that he flew all the way to Serbia to talk Drca into coming back, not because he needed him on the team, but because he wanted Drca to get his degree. Nice sentiment, but I don't think Utes would have done much worse without Drca this year, and would have been better off long-term getting his young guys experience this year.

I wonder if the rumors about payers leaving or being r-u-n-n-o-f-t are fueled by Boylen realizing that if he wants to build a winning program, the loyalty to players needs to be tempered for the good of the team.

I don't understand your response here. You don't think that Whittingham having and understanding of the LDS culture, the rivalry, missions etc. is a great help to him at Utah? Clearly the first priority is to be able to coach, but Utah is not that much different from BYU in being a unique place to coach. You disagree with that?

I don't think the Utah job is a great job, or viewed as such nationally. I don't think the Oregon job is either, so I am not sure what you are drawing at here. The only reason Oregon might land a "name" coach is because the are willing to throw $2.5-4 million at him. If Utah is willing to do the same then they could also maybe land a someone of national interest.

It seems one of the two best coaches in Utah history had almost no understanding of things LDS and managed to be ok.

That's a really ignorant thing to say. He was easily the #1 assistant in the nation to hire.
