It's something vaunted BYU failed to accomplish this year. Last year was especially meaningful in light of the tie for the regular season title. Utah killed to birds with one stone.

    One year ago.

It now appears likely Utah got a higher seed last year than BYU will this year. Soon the books will be closed on this season and BYU fans like junkie and Monson will have nothing but their own delusions on which to base any conclusion that BYU is on the way up and Utah is on the way down. Next year we start over again, and Utah history will be better, as always. And Utah will have better recruiting years in 09 and 10 to build on.
Wow how far can one program fall in just one year. Amazing looks very similar to what Giacoletti did after his one nice season. Of course we were all told that Giac is incompetent and won with Majerus recruits. Now that Boylen is following the same trend its "wait until he gets his own guys in there".

2 years of recruiting in college basketball should be enough to show improvement. The fact that they went to the NCAA tourney as a 5 seed last year and are absolutely awful with no signs of life this year is very telling. In fact Ute fans where do you see any sort of progress coming from next year? Do you really think this team can be a MWC contender with Marshall Henderson as their go to guy?

Boylen might be a good coach and just need more time but with BYU returning all major contributions, New Mexico only having one upper classman, UNLV being young and SDSU being young, it may be awhile before Utah breaks through and Boylen will most likely already be gone.

his name is Monson. He must be a BYU toady in his heart of hearts.

It's also similar to what happened to Majerus after he won his 2nd WAC title.

          1992-93

          24-7, 15-3 (T-1st), NCAA 2nd round.

          1993-94

          14-14, 8-10 (T-5th).

If it could happen to Majerus, it could happen to anyone.

Majerus followed up his .500 season with the best multi-year run in an already impressive Utah basketball history.

If we had a player in the ballpark of Van Horn coming back, I would have some optimism leading into next year. We should be better by simple attrition(losing Drca and Tillie) and gained experience of the younger players. That said, better may be 18-13.

It is cute that you keep trying to sell this. So when we do make a serious jump next year, it will be all that much more fun to humiliate you.

I agree. Foster's development will be crucial. I posted at UF.N yesterday that we need an impact player like Brandon Jesse was in 1994-95.

I hope you do make a "serious" jump, finishing the season above .500 is serious for this team. You might want to get Foster, Washburn and Marshall on the Jordan Wynn HGH program.

Who should I trust more Mr. Crimson or Rick Majerus. That is a tough one.

And you might have a point, except its one rumored throw away line by Majerus that no one can even find in print. I'm sorry that I'd like something more to go on if naming a new basketball coach.

Like a recommendation from Mark Few? That seemed to work out well.

Are you serious about this, junkie? Do you know something that makes that a legit accusation? I am serious in asking.

I think that one thing that has really set Boylen back (aside from BYU, SDSU, UNLV, and UNM being good) is that he decided to keep some average players and had some otherwise decent players leave. What would this team look like with Stephen Weigh as a slasher? How many wins is that worth? Hard to say, but I would trade Weigh for the production we got out of both Tillie and Drca this year. Also, think about the PG position, Josh Olson wasn't retained and Curtis Eatmon had a career (at least at Utah) ending injury, which is kind of a tough break. He's still in the process of balancing out scholarships and whatnot...which just takes time.

He seems to have had a few big misses bringing in guys like Kepkay and Reed and missing out on Ty Abbot and AJ Ogilvy, and he needs to correct that. Flat out, if he's going to bring in a JC guy, it HAS to be someone that can conttribute.
Its too bad Deane was a dipshit as he would have been a great add to the team this year as well.

I have met Boylen (got to sit by him at lunch) and I think he is a good and honorable man. In fact, I am proud that a man of his caliber is the Ute coach. I hope he succeeds, and I think the U. has no choice but to give him another 2 seasons.

One of the "problems" we have now is that neither hoops coach is hatable. Rose is just a guy I cannot dislike. Boylen seems to be that way too (although some BYU fans oddly find his excitable behavior annoying -- why? you don't have to watch him except when the Y and the U play each other).

If Jimmy does succeed I will enjoy watching junkie eat crow.
