  • Jim Boylen on 1280 this morning.......

As bat shit crazy as this guy is on the court, I have a really hard time not liking him.

He is a great interview and holds nothing back. If I worked in the media I would run to him for sound bytes every chance I got.

He also mentioned a recruit by name (not sure if that is allowed maybe he has already signed with another school) by the name of Allen Crabbe. He is a 4 star recruit out of LA, who told Boylen he loves everything about Utah, in fact he likes Utah better than any school he has visited. However he wants to play in a conference that gets more recognition so he chose Cal. Said he wanted to play in the Pac-10.

Boylen said this is fairly common, that they lose kids all the time because of the "prestige" of the Pac-10. Which Boylen says is not better than the MWC in hoops and actually has worse attendance numbers.

I agree about Boylen - I'm a fan. I'm not sure if the guy can recruit and/or coach well enough to have a top team year in and year out, but I like him.

I hate when BYU fans like Utah coaches, it means they are not winning enough.

If you think that's why BYU fans disliked Majerus, you're seriously kidding yourself.

Heard the interview as well. Hard to hate him. I thought in our rivalry game this year, even with all of the sideline antics, he showed a lot of class following the Emery/Jackson incident by going to Jackson and checking on him and to the coach's as well. Seems like a good guy.

I was watching him before the game. BYU warms up on the visitor's side and Boylen was out watching the guys warm up and shaking hands and slapping butts. The guy seemed genuinely happy to see the BYU guys and had genuine positive feelings. You can't fake those big goofy smilies. He's one of the good guys. I hope he loses a lot of games and leaves soon, because he's too hard to hate. I think I'd rather hate a winning coach at the U than like a losing coach.

Has there ever been more love for opposing coaches from fans of BYU and Utah? These are unprecedented times.

I've come full circle on Boylen too. But did anyone ask him to explain his rebounding philosophy?

                          Excellent observation.

There is nothing about Rose that I don't like. It would be nice if his teams would lose more often, but that's no reason to dislike him. He's a good man.

I actually think that Whit and Bronco need to look at how Boylen and Rose act towards each other and the other school. While a rival is a good thing, having all the hate spewed and garbage is not a good thing. If Whit/Bronco acted more like Boylen/Rose or LaVell/McBride the ugliness might not be so bad.
