If this is right Boylen deserves the aks. He's had enough time. I'm wondering how the hell he won the conference last year with that team. I do know that I practically guaranteed a Ute loss to no. 12 Arizona in the tournament last year (I had seen Arizona a number of times, including once in person: it had some hops, a high quality big man, and explosive offense). When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

I continue to be amazed at how differently people can perceive the same incident/video.Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostI thought this was an interesting perspective from a Ute fan. I wonder what video editing software was used to make Emery's reaction appear delayed:

To me, there is no delayed reaction at all in that video.
It shows a kid getting unexpectedly hit in the eye or nose and reacting completely naturally.
I am probably wrong to attribute the differing interpretations to the fact that I am just vastly more intelligent and unbiased than those who see it differently.

I congratulated Utah on hanging in there. I think they are pretty good, or they wouldn't have had some of the impressive wins. I don't know the reason they are so inconsistent.Originally posted by Senioritis View PostI just want to make sure I've got this right.
Utah has one guy that deserves a D1 scholarship - Jay Watkins.
Other than him, they've got a 7'3" stiff who is horribly disappointing because he can't guard all five of the opponent's players, a pre-pubescent Mike Rose who is, to coin a phrase of glorious redundancy, a marginally average scorer, a 6'10" frenchman who averages more fouls than points, an athletic scorer who can't score, an entire team who couldn't collectively guard Andrea Lloyd if she only shot with her left hand, and a coach who is legally insane, inept, unwittingly causes his players to swing at opponents, and is generally a notch or two below Cleve Steveland.
And yet, this laughable collection of humanity went into the most difficult environment in the country, got down by 10 right out of the gate and 18 in the second half, and then mounted an impossible comeback with FOUR guys on the floor who didn't play D1 ball last year, cut the lead to 4, actually made a game of it, and ended up losing because BYU has a once in a generation scorer at the point.
Have I got that right?
If so, all I can say is heaven help BYU in the post season. Either Utah ain't as bad as all you homers think, or BYU ain't as good. Hell I don't know, maybe a bit of both.
I don't know how good BYU is either. I think they are good enough to win the MWC and win one in the NCAA. However, as someone has pointed out on this board, I am a couch potato know nothing fan.
P.S. I would not let the right wing part of our fans base get to you.

Junkie, I just want to express my gratitude to you for always being the guy who can tell me the bitter, unvarnished truth about all Ute teams. Without you we'd have to subscribe to HB Arnett's stuff to know.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostFoster- 7'3 player that blocks shots due to his height but does have decent timing, is awful offensively and needs to get on the Jordan Wynn HGH diet. If he does that he could have a nice future. Worth a schollie? Absolutely.
Watkins- Undersized post player, plays with a ton of energy and is a good offensive rebounder. Has zero range but does not need as he is quicker than most guys that will be guarding him. Worth a schollie: By far the best player on the team.
Drca and Tillie: Tillie is french, Drca has mastered the jump pass turnover. Tillie does a nice job at lulling his defender to sleep and taking 3-4 minute stretches off and then out of the blue cutting to the hoop for an easy dunk once his defender forgets that he is on the court. Drca I have nothing good to say about. Worth a schollie? Tille possibly, Drca not a chance.
Henderson: Shoots a lot. He has taken 60 more shots than anyone else on the team and is shooting a paltry 35.8% from the floor and 32% from three. He averages more turnovers per game than assists and has no idea what his role is on this team. The fact that he is relied on to be their primary scorer tells me all I need to know about Utahs basketball team this year. Worthy of a schollie? Maybe as a 9 or 10th option off the bench that gives you limited minutes.
Brown: Carlon Brown can dunk, and dunk well. But in 3 years he has yet to develop any sort of jump shot and really can not create his own shot because his only move is to go hard to the basket and try and throw it down. If he had any sort of midrange game he could be dangerous and has the athleticism to be a very good player. Worth of a schollie: yes
Glover: has a nice future, good size and a decent stroke. However he is one ugly SOB in fact his eyes look like they are on the side of his head, he could be the bastard child of Sam Cassell. Worthy of schollie: sure
Tavita: Good size for a PG, Utahs offense runs its best with him in the game. Mediocre defender, but horrible shooter. Which allows the opposing teams guard to sag off of him and help out on other players. If Tavita could develop a jump shot he would be serviceable and utah would be a lot better. Worthy of a schollie? yes due to his potential.
Washburn, Cyphers, Read: The jury is still out
Shoff- he better not be on schollie he was not good in high school and is not good now.
So why is Utah below .500 this year? How about the following players having more turnovers than assists:
Marshall Henderson, Carlon Brown, David Foster, Jay Watkins, Shawn Glover, Kim Tillie, Jordan Cyphers and Jason Washburn.
Tavita has a respectable 1.5/1 Assist to Turnover ratio.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

One year BYU started Matt Montague, Eric Neilson and Jared Jensen. The other two starters were Travis Hansen and new returned RM named Mark Gigilo Bigilo. I think off the bench they had Dan Howard and Jimmy Balderson. Montague had to play 40 mpg. They still won 20 games and had many spectacular moral victories.
I think the point is the difference between bad and average can often be very small, but the difference from average to good is much larger. A team of misfits can play good teams close and even win one or two, but then turn around and be taken to the woodshed by Pepperdine or the mighty, mighty, mightymightymighty Vandals of the Idaho University!Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

Yes. It's analogous to taking a top football team in the midst of a 25-1 (or whatever it was) run that will include a BCS win, and led by the best football coach in the team's history, playing a Crowton-led disaster that's quarterbacked by a fourth stringer whose only claims to fame will be "Lawyers in Love" and dating Darryl Hannah, and then beating that team 3-0. The weather in the Marriott Center was marginally better, but otherwise the analogy is perfect in every salient detail.Originally posted by Senioritis View Post... No doubt. I don't live in Utah and even if I did, my life would prevent me from obsessively following either Utah or BYU sports. In fact, I think it's downright odd that you follow Utah that closely. I don't follow Utah that closely myself, and I never watch BYU games unless the Cougs are playing Utah or the Coug football team is in a bowl game on a night when I have extra time. Since they are always in the LV Bowl I'm usually too busy with Christmas to watch.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostThe sad thing is I guarantee I have watched more Ute basketball games this year than both you and SU combined.

I do have to hand it to you CJ. I'm searching for someone/something to hate about the U, but much like the thrill of seeing some cleavage from the cover of Maxim while buying my Big Gulp for me old age=apathy. I just can't muster the vitriol and hatred I use to but for you it comes as natural as landpoke gargling with Jack Daniels every morning (Also big props for SU, who has a decade on me and is still bringing it like a pre-Gridlock'd Tupac).Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostThe sad thing is I guarantee I have watched more Ute basketball games this year than both you and SU combined.

Thats what "fans" are for.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostI'm mystified by the level of reaction to this whole Emery/Henderson thing. It was a very minor incident and didn't have any effect on the outcome of the game and there were no postgame comments that I saw from players or coaches to feed the fire.
