Rose played the bench a lot. Davies and Haws were first off the bench.

Davies played a lot of minutes. I'm still not sure if this is to give Davies some minutes now because exhibition doesn't count against redshirt or if Davies really will get some PT this year. Davies actually looked a lot better than I thought he looked in the blue-white game and I can see him contributing this season. He brings some things we haven't seen in a big man in a long time. Quick jumper and very active on the offensive boards. Runs the floor. Those who said he has no offensive moves are very wrong. He's got the moves, he's just having issues finishing. That will come.

Haws looked nice out there. I think we'll see Jimmer, Abouo, and Haws on the court together more than Morgan and Jimmer together in the backcourt when Emery's resting.

Overall the team struggled a little offensively. Obviously early in the season but I think I was a little premature thinking Lee would be easy to replace and this team would be better than last year.

I haven't been following -- is Rose coaching the team?

      - I like Davies, though he needs to bulk up and develop a few post moves.
      - Really like Haws' potential. Good ball handler. Good body control. Good defense for a freshman. Quick release.
      - Abuo is a good athlete but a terrible ball handler.
      - Miles has an NBA body and an NAIA game. Frustrates the hell out of me.
      - Jimmer is a stud, but he needs a new barber.
      - All the JT haters can suck it. Guy is a stud and maybe the best player on the team.
      - That Doerkson kid is pretty good for a Canuck.

Yes. He wasn't going to, but then the recovery went so quickly he decided to just go forward. He does everything he's always done, as far as I know.

I agree on all counts -- just back from the game. We're still going to pretty dependent on Jimmer and JT for offense this season. I'm not sure anybody else is going to step up to average double digit scoring.

Miles looked even more clutsy than last year if that's possible.

Nice flush by Davies. He's going to be good by the time he's a junior and senior.

Yeah, big thanks for the readouts.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I watched the game on BYUTV, and during the first half this was exactly what I was thinking. Lee's problems taking over a game have been well documented, but he did so many things well that he could hide a lot of weaknesses and sloppiness. I think there will be many times, especially early in the season, when the team just looks out of sync, and much of it will be because Lee Cummard isn't there. I would have loved to see the combination of a team like this, where there is a lot of talent, with a Sphomore or Junior Lee Cummard, where he isn't expected to be The Man, but could just make all that talent better.

BYU had an awful shooting night. I think it may have been a bit of preseason jitters. I think Jimmer may have shot 1-3 from the free throw line. I was pretty impressed with the the way Trinity came out and shot lights out. BYU methodically took the game over though. It's crazy how they can go up by 12 and you don't even really notice it happen. Miles has got to get it together. I think he's the weakest link on the team right now. Whether or not they can win the conference championship I think depends on him scoring at least 8-12 points and 8-9 boards.

Don't hold your breath. This is the same way he played in high school.

I agree that Miles is the key to this club. I also think it likely that the team had an afternoon practice before the game.

Agreed. If he hasn't put it together now, it's not gonna happen. For that reason, I was disappointed to see Anderson not get more minutes.

Andersen is as limited as Miles skill wise but more limited physically. Andersen is a career back-up. Hartsock is more productive and Davies will probably be more productive too.

By the way, the BYU exhibition game tonight is on BYU-TV. 7:30 pm.

I was referring to Santos's comment about playing the bench. I'm not suggesting he's better, but he is younger and will be around for a while (RS Soph, right?). For that reason, and because Miles is a pretty known commodity, I'd like to see him get time--especially in games that don't matter.

When people talk about core players on the team, he is never mentioned. He could be a nice bonus.
