Boylen's "Issues"

He has less to prove than Boylen. How come Majerus was able to win right out the shoot without his own players? Boylen has more talent than the results show. It is obvious that Rose is a very good hoops coach, his lack of postseason success has more to do with where he is coaching than his coaching.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostI'm saying you shouldn't assume he's a great coach. He has much to prove.
Boylen, on the other hand, while he doesn't yet have "his players" he does have a knack to lose games to teams where it is obvious that Giacolleti's players left him were more talented and capable than the players on the teams that finish basketball games with more points than Utah. With Boylen we have an issue of losing games to teams he shouldn't lose to and with Rose we have an issue of not being able to get a program that has never had much postseason success any postseason success.
Saying all that, I tend to believe that BYU fans revelling in Boylen's short term struggles are in for a bit of a surprise. I believe Boylen is likely to get Utah back as a premiere MWC team but I don't believe he will get Utah back to being a national name. I think Utah's future under Boylen is going to be very similar to BYU's under Cleveland and Rose. If competing for the MWC championship and frequent first round exits is mediocre, I predict a great deal of mediocrity for Utah over the next decade with Boylen.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

post season
Before the fat man BYU and utah hoops were very similar. The fat man took utah to heights they hadn't had in years. SU you can bash me all you want. I don't really watch utah basketball. When I talk about it, it is with friends that are fans and they tell me what they see and think.
I saw Boylen going crazy in the MC last year and was worried that he was nuts. I'll see him again when BYU plays utah this year. From what I have heard he should be a good coach, but I don't think he is taking utah back to consistent sweet 16's like the fat man did.
As for Rose, I haven't said he is a great coach yet. I think we will win in the tourney this year, I still won't think he is great then either. I think for a coach to be great it has to be done for years. Is Rose a good coach? Yes, imo he is. Is Whit? Yes. Is Bronco? Yes. Are any of them great? Imo, not yet, they all could be let's sit back and wait before annointing them as great coaches.

Boylen is eleven games into his second year. His recruits have barely been on the floor. Two of them are redshirted. Since your yammering about BM being the "great" coach and Whit just being "very good" you have NO crediblity. It will take you years to recover.
Tell me, Goat, you must really think Whit is overpaid now. Right? When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Well, I said GU was better this year than either of the last two, depsite what the polls and pundits said. So far, I'm being proven right; as usual my predictions are astute. It's not rocket science. Chris Wright and Greg Monroe are far better natural basketball talents and athletes than Jonathan Wallace and Roy Hibbert, who Thompson recriuted in his initial year of struggles.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostSU I was expecting to see a post last night about your Hoyas big win. All the talk about basketball being your sport, you are letting me down.
But when I said all this no one wanted to engage me, so what's the point? On the other hand, everyone is eager to fawn all over 3D about USC. What better evidence of a privileged class here that gets special treatment? That would be fine--just life--except it gives lie to Cuf being a "fresh start." Just ask tooblue. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

This is really a good post, with more chum than an Alaskan fishery. It could be improved by placing the "as usual my predictions are astute" in the center for a more chiastic feel, but this is what happens when one strays too far from the faith. Still, a worthy effortOriginally posted by SeattleUte View PostWell, I said GU was better this year than either of the last two, depsite what the polls and pundits said. Explain why he loses to Directional Baptist and the Pride of Pocatello. He was swept by the worst WYO team I have ever seen. Not having his recruits helps to explain why Dave Rose beats him like a redheaded stepchild, but it doesn't explain the numerous losses to teams such as Idaho State, Wyoming, TCU or Houston Baptist where his players are better players.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostBoylen is eleven games into his second year. I think his players must really suck. He may not be a Majerus in terms of x's and o's and drilling. Who is? But even Majerus can't win without talent, that's a proven fact. On the other hand, talent cures a lot of coaching ills. See Utah 2005. As long as he keeps recruiting as he has the past two years I have an open mind. In any event, one year and eleven games is way too early to judge. Just look at John Thompson III at GU, or Ben Howland at UCLA. I'm just suggesting you all suspend judgment for a reasonable time rather than do as you always have.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostExplain why he loses to Directional Baptist and the Pride of Pocatello. Houston Baptist still hasn't won this season. Unfortunately, they didn't get that sure 'W' that a trip to SLC would have represented.

Goat, for the record, let's get your assessment, Boylen vs. Rose, down. Rose is a very good coach and Boylen is a bad coach. For future reference. Did I get that right? When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.
