  • I AM SO PISSED.

My school district sent out a noticed to all teachers at all schools that they are not to show any video clips of the president's address, distribute any written excerpts, or use the material in any other way in class.

This is un-friggin-believeable. The district has never done anything like this with respect to any other president (I've lived here my whole life). This is an unprecedented policy made for our black muslim president.

I still can't believe it. If I didn't know better I'd think I got on the wrong interstate last weekend (which is hardly possible, as I'm an excellent navigator) and ended up in Mississippi.

DDD, I think we need to get to Biloxi ASAP. I'll start driving tonight.

My exclusively Caucasian private elementary school in North Carolina never gave us school off for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Not once. We all knew it was a statement.

It isn't that far from Houston. You can just run!

Do what I'm doing: I'm watching the speech with my kindergartner on youtube at home. Now, we live in the District. And DC's mayor sends his kids to our public school. Why didn't my son watch Obama's speech in school yesterday? B/c the school didn't have the equipment to broadcast the speech. lol

Well, you did make two ice cream girls twenty bucks richer at any rate.

I don't have an answer to your real question, though. Move? Get elected to the school board?

See, if I was interested in getting certain people to like me, I'd attempt some clever wordplay here.

As it stands, I'll just ask if you did that on purpose.

Here in Mississippi, the school board prefers to simply insert a teacher development day at the last minute so that there is no school that day. At least this way they don't have to publicly state their opinion.
