tl;dr summary: the only thing that will save us is scientific/engineering breakthroughs resulting in cheap, clean energy.

I’ve made this same argument many times and he’s exactly right. China and India don’t care about climate change since they can’t feed their population. Reducing emissions by buying a Tesla will make someone feel good, but it won’t impact climate change anymore than my vote will impact a national election.

Cheap energy is the only way and by cheap I don’t mean heavily subsidized.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Sounds like there's a push to scale up heat pumps in cities.

What is it with rightwing so called conservatives and the aversion to seeing the world as it really is ...

BBC will not broadcast Attenborough episode over fear of rightwing backlash

          https://www.theguardian.com/media/20...backlash-fears

"The BBC has decided not to broadcast an episode of David Attenborough’s flagship new series on British wildlife because of fears its themes of the destruction of nature would risk a backlash from Tory politicians and the rightwing press, the Guardian has been told."
