What exactly is leftist about this video? Were there issues out there that don't receive universal support? Public schools already teach about recycling.
Either this video and the time they spent making it was a complete waste or it will do some good for this country.

If it is the latter, where were these celebrities during Bush's administration when the country really needed the help?

BTW, Gayle Ruzika is an embarrassment.

I don't know that parents need to freak out over their kids seeing it, but it was a dumb clip. How many of these kids have heard of UNICEF? or know a thing about stem cell research? How many Utah schoolchildren could recognize Michael Strahan or Jason Bateman? And of course, kicking it all off with the icon of the President's personality cult and pledging not to leave poor, poor, lonely Obama without support . . . whatever.

But why Gayle Ruzika? What does she have to do with any of this?
lol. should they focus on charities that little kids HAVE heard of before? in your experience raising kids, which are the most well-known charities amongst 10-12 year olds?

I think they hated President Bush.

It is also possible that President Bush didn't ask them to do this video.

Why didn't Bush do something like this at all? Surely there are enough conservative celebs that he could have recruited to do some sort of PSA for the youth.

Exactly - in the video they talk about pride for the country, making the country better, etc. Whether they hate the guy or not, if by doing this, they are doing the country some good, wouldn't a similar video have been helpful in a time of need for this country?

Taking it even further, if they think he was such a horrible president, wouldn't a video like this have been even more important to put out there to make up for the incompetent president?

It is also possible that President Bush didn't ask them to do this video.
Did Obama ask them to do this video? My guess is that he didn't.

Don't misunderstand me, DDD. I don't really have an issue with the pledges. I agree with nearly all of them (not so sure about not flushing after a single). A few controversial issues I noticed included stem cell research and buying a hybrid (environmentalism), and supporting UNICEF. I don't care enough to go through and highlight every pledge that is associated with the left. That's boring and predictable. Leave it to the Ruzzites or eagles or whatever they call themselves.

The point is that every pledge made is in line with what Obama supports and every celebrity came on the record as supporting Obama. It appears too one sided and like I said, I'm not sure how I feel about the POS using the bully pulpit to reach school children in that way. It's very crafty and very subtle and seemingly innocuous which is why it makes me uneasy because it's a political message packaged as a simple, altruistic volunteer pledge. Whoever created it was a genius.

That defines a lot of the things President Obama and his staff are doing. Very subtle, very crafty... not much you can overtly call out.

When September 11 hit, my little sister ran a lemonade stand and donated their earnings to Red Cross. When I was in elementary school, every December, sixth graders came to our classroom every morning, rang a bell, and asked for "Quarters for Christmas." We visited the rest homes. Volunteered at the Boys and Girls club.

But of course, if you think it would be more helpful to mention organizations and causes of which they've never heard, I'll defer to your judgment.

Obama and will.i.am have collaborated previously for a few different events. will.i.am did the "Yes, We Can" video, also filled with celebs, many of them the same ones. I would think that he definitely asked them to do it, organize it, and get it done. He can do this because he has the clout amongst celebs to get it done with very little effort on his part.

I don't know why you think this is a patriotic thing. It is a grass roots activist thing geared towards community involvement, which is not necessarily the same thing as "I love the United States of America." Why would you expect people to want to collaborate with a guy that they dislike immensely? Also, I can't tell you why Bush never did this sort of thing with celebs that were favorable to his cause. Certainly there were some that he could have employed for this sort of PSA.

I see where you want to go with this, but not sure you are going about it in the most persuasive manner.

I guess I don't understand your basis for claiming they have never heard of them. I don't know if they have or have not. How do you know?

Perhaps the video should have mentioned "Quarters for Christmas."

If Obama collaborated with them on this, my entire argument goes out the window. Thanks for the info!!!

well, admittedly, I have no proof of that. It certainly is possible that he did not. If his name is on it (or implies that he endorses it), I would think he would have to sign off. I wonder how easy it is to find out this info?

will.i.am's involvement makes me think that the prez either commissioned it or signed of on it. I want to look into it further.

                                That make sense.

But hey, if you find out he wasn't involved let me know. This will give me some to time to work on a more persuasive argument.
