My kids go to Eagle Bay, and my wife was at this assembly. While I think the video is horsepucky and it makes me want to jam a mechanical pencil in both of my eyes, my boys seemed to enjoy it and the only detail they remembered was "flushing after a deuce, but not after a single." After the video, everybody made a pledge about serving other people this year. I'm pretty sure that's not an exclusively communist tenet, but I'm no expert.

When did we become such softies? When did we all turn into whiners on the level of the 1986 Celtics? Who really gives a crap about this?

I like Barack Obama, I think he's a swell guy, and I think some of the stuff he's trying to do is highly jacked up. I hope my kids turn out to feel the same way at some point, but they are freaking eight years old. They don't care. The president says serve the community, whoopity freaking doo.

So what if my kids pick up a few backasswards tidbits during a well intentioned five minute video at school? We'll detox them at home, and keep on trucking, like we always have. I'm not outsourcing their brains to Eagle Bay's PTA president. We'll teach them at home, and go with it.

We've all got to quit being sissies, and that includes you, Gayle Ruzicka, and you, Finderson.

Regardless, my kids better keep flushing after both singles and deuces, or I'm going after Jason Bateman.

So I get an e-mail from a family member with a bunch of family members and family friends copied. Lead in is what are you going to do with your children and grandchildren. Let them go to school?

Now we are a family of conservatives, but I copied everyone back. He was elected President. If he wants to talk to elementary kids, let him talk. Enough of this great conspiracy theory. I don't like policies he is pushing, but I am not going to succumb to the thought he and the dems. are putting drugs in the water and sending subliminal messages on the TV.

Act like a parent. Find out what he said and if you disagree discuss it with your kids.

Since you are still little kid, you are too young to remember the Nancy Reagan War on Drugs/D.A.R.E. videos from the 80s.

I always thought 1980s Nancy looked pretty hot in a red dress, even for her age.

It's nuanced, but there's a difference between the D.A.R.E. program and this video. I don't know how I feel about the POS using the bully pulpit to reach school children on issues that don't receive universal support. D.A.R.E. and programs against drugs receive universal support from all aspects of society. Even the smart drug dealers wouldn't want their kids doing drugs.

The video is encouraging kids to choose something about which they feel passion and to do it for the betterment of their community. The celebs in question are giving their own pledges, including recycling, being a better parent, smiling more, etc.

At the end of the video, the viewer is asked rhetorically, "what is your pledge?"

What exactly is leftist about this video? Were there issues out there that don't receive universal support? Public schools already teach about recycling.

That video was annoying.

I don't know that parents need to freak out over their kids seeing it, but it was a dumb clip. How many of these kids have heard of UNICEF? or know a thing about stem cell research? How many Utah schoolchildren could recognize Michael Strahan or Jason Bateman? And of course, kicking it all off with the icon of the President's personality cult and pledging not to leave poor, poor, lonely Obama without support . . . whatever.

But why Gayle Ruzika? What does she have to do with any of this?
