Poland made an app that forces coronavirus patients to take regular selfies to prove they're indoors or face a police visit

The Polish government has introduced a new app that will require coronavirus patients to take selfies to prove they're quarantining properly.

Per France 24, the "Home Quarantine" app is intended for people quarantining for 14 days after returning from abroad.

People who've downloaded the app register a selfie with the app, then periodically receive requests for geo-located selfies. If they fail to comply, the police will be alerted.

"People in quarantine have a choice: either receive unexpected visits from the police, or download this app," a spokesman for Poland's Digital Ministry told the AFP. If a user fails to respond to a request within 20 minutes police will be notified.

Can't be sure now (it's been awhile since I took World History), but I seem to recollect that Poland had a very bad "Your papers, please" experience in the last century.

Neeleman confirmed that he made a $5,000 donation to Stanford to be given to these researchers and that he was in communication with them while they were conducting their research...

One email, without a visible timestamp or sender that was sent to Bogan’s and Neeleman’s addresses, read: “David, I think you should write Taia a note and tell her you’ll support her lab if she validates this kit.” Bendavid confirmed that he put Neeleman and Wang in touch.

And Neeleman did write to her. “First and absolutely most importantly, we have to establish without any doubt, the efficacy of these tests,” he wrote. “I am frustrated by what appears to be the lack of urgency...

Finally, Neeleman dangled the prospect of funding her to conduct that future test. “If you are willing to do a 5,000 test in New York, just tell me the cost and I will raise the money immediately,” he wrote, signing off with his cellphone number. “Time is of the essence.” (In a screenshotted email included in the complaint, Neeleman appears to share his note to Wang with the lead researchers.)

Now you're lying. Everyone remembers it and it's in the written record. I said I'd heard that Chinese tests generated false negatives of I think up to 30 percent. You scoffed at that, said it can't possibly be true. You may even have said hilarious. I cited the NPR broadcast I heard that morning. Lebowski chimed in and said now SU is arguing with a real expert (Ha. Some expert!).

The article says explicitly that the donations were anonymous through a process at Stanford. But if they knew he donated $5,000, so be it. You think that influences Stanford Professors? if you say yes you're a dolt or being disingenuous, like the article. And they were writing their views well before he contacted them, which is why he sought them out. And his communications with them was never a secret. He talked about it in tweets and in his column on the Daily Wire. Again, let's see if any reputable outlet picks up this "story" or follows up on it.

It was also a Stanford-based study that showed that only 1% of Major League Baseball personnel have COVID antibodies I believe. But interestingly the majority of those with antibodies (70%?) had never had any symptoms.

I think it’s possible that with 1.5 million documented US cases that up to 5-10 million people, mainly in metro areas, have had the virus and never got tested.

I agree with opening things up though. There is more than one way to kill a person prematurely and it’s a well accepted tenet of public health that when people lose their jobs and homes they die earlier.

Vulnerable people should stay home. No church for sure until they can put each piece of sacrament bread in some type of individual sterile bag (permeable only to the words of the sacrament prayer!)
