So - I get it that having an economy based in capitalism has not eliminated poverty from among our people. But I have yet to see an alternative that is viable with the challenges and circumstances we have in the US. While I can't disagree that perhaps some of the most wealthy should be contributing more - I honestly don't know what that looks like. But I also don't believe that the list of things she and other folks who lean left are hoping to provide free for everyone is going to lead us out of poverty either.
What if everybody is poor? Doesn't that eliminate class distinctions?

If we fast forward 20 years we might see that the Chinese system of social credit scores and "re-education" works to get rid of poverty.

Maybe it eliminates class distinctions. It certainly doesn't eliminate poverty.

Her comments actually got me curious about what King said about capitalism. Again, interesting. But I also believe that most religious leaders would have a view of fighting poverty, caring for the poor, helping provide for them, and wanting there to be additional services and support to lift them out of poverty. Frankly, I also wouldn't necessarily expect a person with religious training to be an expert on the economy. I think it would be easy for him to find the flaws in capitalism - as he also sees the people impacted. But that doesn't mean he knows a better way. For example - as much as he wanted to fight poverty in the US, I'm guessing that if you'd plopped him down in a communist/socialist country during his same era, he would've had similar things to say about their economic system.

Oh good I'm glad she is here to help us out with the pandemic. Last I remember it was mid-March and she was claiming everyone was racist for not going to chinese restaurants.

                  • I just read an article about AOC's primary challenger who is backed by the US Chamber of Commerce. At the end of the article there was some suggested reading:

She is so incredibly useless it is unbelievable. Is she a committed believer, a useful idiot, or a pandering genius?

As Adam Carolla likes to ask: “Stupid or liar?”
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

Most people would say stupid. I don’t think she is as dumb as many people say she is. In fact, I think she has figured out how to play big girl politics at a very young age. So I’m going with liar.

I tend to lean this way, but I also think she genuinely believes some of the economic "theories" she puts forth. If she believes what she says, her understanding of economics is literally grade school level at best.

Edit: and yes she has a degree in economics so I guess that would be evidence in the liar column?

                            Sounds like she's an expert.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

From which institution and what type of economics degree was she awarded?
