AOC: PELOSI SADDLING ME WITH WORK TO KEEP ME OUT OF SPOTLIGHT

‘Sometimes I wonder if they’re trying to keep me busy’

The civil war between the Democratic Party’s left flank and extreme left flank is heating up.

Days after Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi mocked Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and trio of her freshmen colleagues — Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) — for focusing on Twitter and PR at the expense of legislation, AOC issued another broadside against Pelosi.

"All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world," Pelosi told the New York Times’ Maureen Dowd published Saturday. "But they didn't have any following. They're four people and that's how many votes they got."

Today in an interview with WNYC’s “New Yorker Hour,” AOC accused Pelosi of intentionally saddling her with work to keep her out of the spotlight.

“I was assigned to some of the busiest committees and four subcommittees,” AOC said. “So my hands are full. And sometimes I wonder if they’re trying to keep me busy.”

Doesn't Pelosi know that this isn't how it works with the Green New Deal? You only have to work if you want to.

His comments followed a feud between Pelosi and freshman congresswomen, like Ocasio-Cortez, that involved racially-charged criticism.

Ocasio-Cortez's chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, previously compared moderate Democrats to racists
He is right about those moderate Dems... Just look at that racist Biden! They need to kick the moderates out of their party before they destroy it.

          • Even though it is insane, you gotta love the deliciousness of the race card being turned on people like Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden. The left have trafficked in identity politics for at least two decades and have raised a generation of activists that mainline this stuff and are also firmly convinced of their own righteousness in any political argument. It was only a matter of time before the guns were leveled at their own allies. As any conservative knows, all it takes is a disagreement.

Sorry, I don't see Biden as an extremist. These hardcore activists hate Biden, and Pelosi.

I didnt say he was. Hes the one D candidate with a shot that I could vote for. But he has definitely trafficked in this stuff for his benefit in the past (Exhibit A: telling a black audience Mitt Romney wanted to put them back in chains during the 2012 campaign). By doing stuff like that he has helped to create the environment that may be his downfall.

Not all of the left have trafficked in this bad form of identity politics (and not even the majority I suspect), though turning a blind eye at times is likely. The right has their hand in this too, the far right plays identify politics (of a different nature) also. In the past the right had turned a blind eye also. Generally, in the recent past, I think the center right has done a reasonable job of rejecting the far right, but more can be done. If the left wants moderate voices in power, more of them are going to have to follow Pelosi's lead and publicly reject and call out misuse of identity politics. We evolved to be deeply risk adverse when it comes to betraying our own team/tribe and risking ostracization.

I forget who said it, but recently a moderate left-leaning individual lamented that they felt they had more in common with the center right than with the far left. A small committed minority can indeed have sway over an entire discussion if they reach critical mass. The dynamics of this are interesting. It's easy to say that it's just a fringe group, but given enough members and levels of commitment they can wield influence well beyond expectations for their size. They can also trigger opposition as the perception of their influence increases through academia and media.

Frank, you need to get your eyes checked... Biden hates brown people! Have you not been watching CNN?

I guess all those brown people are hardcore activists.

She’s narcissistic and tone deaf just like Trump — of course the leaders of her party hate her.

                            • Ocasio-Cortez and Omar just need to go back to their original countries - POTUS:

Donald Trump has said some Democrat congresswomen from countries “whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe” should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came”.

While it was not explicitly clear to whom the US president was referring, it came after he launched an extraordinary attack on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar – both women of colour – saying he “doesn’t even know where they came from”.

He tweeted: “So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run.

                              • As Dowd says, moderates made the democratic majority in the House. Now in 2020 everyone will be running against AOC.
