Look no further than the use of the term “far left.” When have heard a conservative talking head talk about a moderate liberal or just a liberal? It’s always “far left socialists.”

Trump has changed the dialogue game for both parties, and not for the better. The best thing for conservative America and for America would be a rejection of him in 2020.
I heard plenty of Democrats talking about the "radical right" or the "far right" during the Kavanaugh hearings.

Also this death spiral of vilifying the other side started long before Trump. Some would say it started (had a resurgence?) around Newt Gingrich's time 25 years ago and has grown from there. I think a lot of it has to do with the end of the cold war. Al qaeda maybe dampened it for a bit, but when there is no imposing enemy outside the country to unit against, people (or maybe more precisely politicians) look for enemies to beat up in the country.

    • It’s called identity politics and has been around forever. It’s nothing new and I’d wager it’s only slightly worse now under Trump than before.

I’m certainly not disputing that it goes on among the Democrats.

There's some doubletalk going on in those tweets.

AOC says "unprecendented flooding is becoming the new normal" & criticized inaction re climate change.

Some dude named Ryan says how stupid AOC is for turning a weather into a political event. Sure there will be increased rainfall extremes in a warmer world, but look how stupid AOC is for saying essentially that same thing!

See! Look how stupid AOC is!
If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

It’s irrefutable that AOC is stupid. Just because someone else is stupid doesn’t mean she isn’t.

Weather does not equal climate, or at least that’s what I’m told when it’s snowing/freezing in Houston. Also, isn’t DC located directly in a swamp? Seems like Constitution Avenue should be flooding at least sometimes.

Having lived in the Midwest next to the Mississippi River, it’s quite clear that the majority of flooding that takes place out there is due to the constraints placed on a river that should naturally be flooding. You don’t allow it to overflow and that water goes further downstream. I’d say suburban sprawl along these corridors has more to do with flooding than a random rainstorm.

Nobody is disputing that weather isn't climate. Nor did AOC claim otherwise.

Everyone seems to agree that warmer climate will result in more extreme weather events.
Nobody seems to be disputing that you cannot attribute a particular weather event to climate change.
But can you not notice what seems to be an increase in extreme weather events and say maybe we should be doing something before it becomes even worse?

Also, I see similar statements all the time about how AOC is "irrefutably stupid." But I also see a lot of what is claimed to be evidence of this to be (as here) misrepresentation of what she actually said, or simple disagreement with her political views (i.e., I don't agree with her position on this political issue, so she's stupid.") I'm sure someone has collected all this "irrefutable" proof of her stupidity somewhere?

That's called anecdotal evidence and it isn't a valid line of reasoning.

But it’s valid evidence if it supports his conclusion!!

This thread is full of irrefutable evidence. She isn’t smart.

Very few people argue that climate change is happening. It clearly is. The weather in Houston for this summer has been very mild but you don’t see me using it as an argument that climate change isn’t happening. People argue mostly over what to do about it or the severity of its impact.

Here is a possible example of irrefutable stupidity: She sees a slow moving storm that causes short term flooding and concludes this is a good reason to adopt the Green New Deal. Is it possibly evidence of climate change? Yes. Does it support a policy of ripping apart our economy? Hardly. Isn't the real problem that people actually think the world will END in 12 years or some such and point to a rain storm as proof? It just is not the case and should not be the basis of economic or political policy.
                            PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Dig up her green new deal outline from a few months back. She still hasn't provided any real details (I doubt she will), but I dont know how anyone can read that outline and think AOC has anything more than a 4th grade understanding of economics. I'd say she is like those grade school kids who whined to Diane Feinstein in her office, but the kids are probably smarter than AOC.
