This is what scares me. A reasonable R with larger political aspirations votes for a dead dude because voting for a moderate dem would destroy his national career. The pre-Trump GOP is dead.Originally posted by Applejack View PostMaryland's governor (a R in a deeply D state) didn't vote for Trump either. He wrote in Ronald Reagan! Slightly more meaningful than voting for Evan McMullin.
If he doesn’t have the guts to vote against Trump and Trumpism what is the average dude going to do? If Mitt can’t admit to voting for Biden you think the independent who broke for Trump 4 years ago is going to break away from him?

Agree, it is scary. Memories of an independent who broke for Obama in 2008 only to find out that voting for a moderate democrat was not really what he/she was voting in. Joe Biden picking Kamala Harris as a running mate does not alleviate matters.Originally posted by fusnik View PostThis is what scares me. Even McMullin actually had a statistically meaningful chance to change the outcome of the election in 2016.Originally posted by Applejack View PostMaryland's governor (a R in a deeply D state) didn't vote for Trump either. they could just keep their vote secret, right? Romney told us he didn't vote trump and the Maryland governor obviously told us what he did, but they don't have to say anything, do they?Originally posted by fusnik View PostThis is what scares me. That’s the point. They signal the country that they disagree owith Trump about virtually everything he does, but know that without the racists, bigots, and Q they can’t win in the Trump GOP. The party now is the party of white identity and owning the libs and fake piety. So let’s vote for dead people and not support the only viable normal candidate in the race.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View Postthey could just keep their vote secret, right? Ben Sasse
John Cornyn
Tom Thillis
All on record these past 2 weeks repudiating Trumps record but they know that without this new base they can’t win re-election. Hedging their bets in the event Trump loses.
It’s shameless.

My old HS US History teacher used to tell us each year about his Charlie Brown with Lucy Football moment he has with his wife every election.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View Postthey could just keep their vote secret, right?...
He'd ask her, "who did you vote for?"
She'd say, "I'm not telling you."
He'd say, "I'll tell you who I voted for if you tell me who YOU voted for."
"OK, but you go first."
"No, you go first."
"You always do this, but then you don't tell me. I'm not telling you until you tell me first."
"This time I promise. If you tell me, I promise I'll tell you."
"You promise?"
"Yeah! I promise. You just have to trust me. If you tell me who you voted for, I'll tell you who I voted for."
"OK. Fine. I voted for _________."
"Huh. Interesting."
"Well...who did you vote for?"
"I'm not telling you that! It's my constitutional right to participate in a secret ballot - I don't have to tell you anything!"
As a high schooler, and someone who was friends with his son and knew his wife, it was hilarious.

White people do not like to talk about their political affiliations. It's a secret. You ask a white guy who's he votin' for, like, "Hey, Bob, who you gonna vote for?" "Dave! Dave! Whoa, whoa, whoa! Take it easy. So I was [having sex with my wife], right? And let me tell you, it was something else." "Yeah, yeah, but who are you gonna vote for?" "Dave! Dave, come on with the voting! I'm trying to tell you about [having sex with my wife], and you're asking me all these personal questions."Te Occidere Possunt Sed Te Edere Non Possunt Nefas Est.

Having said that there are some things that should be non-negotiables. I think defeating Trumpism is one of those.
My Trump loving friends can never answer a simple question, besides the racism, name calling, and indecency what did a Trump presidency give you that Jeb or Marco wouldn’t have?

So a republican US senator announces that he did not vote for the current republican president, but somehow that isn't good enough. Unless he voted for the democratic candidate he is a shameless bastard. Because ... you know ... that one vote might end up making the difference. gtfo.Originally posted by fusnik View PostPurity tests are bad.

This sounds like twitter every time Romney does anything."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

We view the threat of Trump differently. I see it as the biggest threat to our country since the Nazis.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostSo a republican US senator announces that he did not vote for the current republican president, but somehow that isn't good enough. I’m on team Flake on this one. I’m in opposition to most of his core beliefs but I could vote for him strictly based on his integrity.
Team vote RR or team vote for my wife, those folks can GTFO.
The Mitts, Sasses, Hogans, could have emerged from this as sterling examples of principled conservatives. Instead they go the Mitt route of 2012, pandering to the new extreme right in the event Trump wins.
Honestly at this point what’s the difference between Marsha Blackburn and Ben Sasse? Lindsey Graham and Mitt?
I’m trying to help the GOP here.

I'm sure democrats love republicans who take stands on principles and are subsequently replaced by democrats.
