Remember SU's big head in the basketball games? They need to roll that out to the football game tomorrow. Zach casually glances and thinks, "whaaa?"
It has been MIA for 2-3 years now. Someone in the ROC probably tossed it. Too bad.

To say that Trump is the biggest threat to America since the Nazis shows how we really have had no real existential threats since the civil war nor will for the foreseeable future. The comment is kind of funny. The Nazis themselves were not an existential threat. I don’t think I missed the part where the Nazis bombed New York and the Wehrmacht stormed the Eastern seaboard. Had we not invaded France, the Soviet Union would have had the Nazis liquidated in the next year and then we’d have had a more serious Cold War problem. The biggest threat has undoubtedly been the Soviet Union, and it was most acute during the Cuban missile crisis.
Donald Trump is not a threat (I’ve voted—for Biden). He’s participating in an election, one that has as much integrity as anywhere, and were he to lose, the military is not about to help him hold onto power, even if he were so inclined, and he’s shown none of that. If he loses, which is likely, power will peacefully transition. He’s called the mainstream media biased against him, which is absolutely true, and he has a right to say that. But only through judicial process, which he’s respected, has he tried to deal any blow. There’s been no violence. He’s the most peaceable president in my lifetime. All bark and no bite militarily.
Remember this: Anyone who believes in free elections, free speech, private property, and the rule of law is part of the liberal tradition. That includes Trump, AOC, Bernie (not clear if he believes in private property, but I bet so in his heart of hearts). This hysteria is stupid. But keep making me laugh.
You are correct in that "existential threat" is hyperbole in this case and your are right about the USSR. But the notion that the Nazis were not an existential thread is ridiculous.

I was talking about to America. You are aware, I assume, that 90 percent of that war was won by the Soviet Union—this is a close paraphrase if not an exact quote from Max Hastings.
When people say this, I wonder if they understand the rules regarding ballots reside in their state constitution. So it's not really a Constitutional Right.
Incidentally, mail in ballots aren't completely secret. I wonder if that's why Trump is against them. People might be less likely to vote for him if they're found out.
Someone has to compare your signature and process your ballot. Some locations have a bar code on the ballot that is specific to the voter. Just depends on how your locality handles the process. I think there's a good chance my aunt will process my own ballot, for example.
I had serious issues with Mitts crazy 2012 run. He morphed from center right to far right to appease a group of people in the south that are hell bent on destroying America. His flirtation with birtherism was downright awful and almost unforgivable.
He’s done some things to atone for his mistakes I’ll give him that. But when he had a real opportunity to wrestle control of the party away from Trump he folded. He didn’t vote for witnesses, he’s going to confirm ACB, and he can’t even bring himself to vote for Biden.
Look at the Republican Party’s endorsements of candidates over the past 2 years. Conspiracy whackos, child predators and open racists. The Trump campaign is helping a loon that wants more dead children in the Mediterranean. Mark Meadows seat might go to a 25 year old who thinks it’s wrong to work for black people.
You are telling me he’s done sufficient work to stop or even curtail the behaviors of POTUS and the GOP?
Maybe he didn't think witnesses were necessary to draw the conclusion that Trump shouldn't be President, or correctly viewed it as a Democratic strategy to draw the pointless trial out for weeks to raise more money. And maybe he thinks ACB would be a good Supreme Court Justice. And maybe he thinks Biden would be a bad President. What makes you think Mitt is a Democrat all of the sudden? That makes no sense.
Sorry. This is from a magazine with New York in the title.
Ha. A book review. Classic SU response.
I agree with the author that defeat of Nazi Germany required the combined effort of the United States (both military and manufacturing), England, and the Soviet Union and that the Soviet paid by far the highest price. Frightening to think what would have happened had Hitler not ignored his military advisors and insisted on an ill-fated invasion of the USSR - his former allies.
You seem to suffer from the historical myopia described by David McCullough and others where we assume that the outcomes that happened were all somehow inevitable. And that leads you to say dumb things such as claiming that the Nazis who started a global war resulting in 56 million deaths including the extermination of 6 million jews where not an existential threat. Because ... (checks notes) ... they didn't bomb New York.

Everywhere should have an envelope that is specific to the voter. The actual ballot should not be identifiable in any way. The process is designed to preserve anonymity, at least in the cases with which I’m familiar. If voting is handled correctly no election official should know any more about your vote than if you voted in person.

Don’t make me list the books on this subject I’ve read. This is not LDS history. Exponentially more interesting and important. The most important subject?

When dividing out credit for the defeat of fascism, I don't think it's fair to ignore how the Soviets were directly linked to it. Like you said they were allies, and they took the opportunity to roll on in into the Baltics and try to in Finland.
