He catches shit from both progressives and Trumpists about meeting with Trump for the SOS job. Romney did so out of a feeling of obligation to his country. Before taking the meeting he asked Madeline Albright and Evil Killary for their advice on doing so.
They both encouraged him to. He wasn’t being servile to Trump like either group claims. He was acting as a moderate.
Romney’s niece, otth, can piss off. She stopped using Romney in her name because that’s what King Trump wanted her to do.

Hmmm. I detect a pattern. I'm sure the orange shit stain had nothing to do with hiding the USS McCain from sight.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostHe catches shit from both progressives and Trumpists about meeting with Trump for the SOS job. Usual disclaimer: Mitt's a good man, and I would vote for him over many others.
But c'mon, he's got to be better than this. He has to know the caricature of speaking out against Trump only when politically expedient has solidified. The remarks were racist.
It's an easy call. On top of that, although he did condemn the remarks, he did it after condemning the politics of the women representatives.

Yep, at least he condemned the remarks. But they came after this:Originally posted by SCcoug View Post
He doesn't need to qualify his remarks with how bad the other side is. Just call it.
I know it could be worse. Some republicans are even saying it isn't racist. I just wish he was better."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. I know I always expect perfection from public figures and demand that they sequence their positions in exactly the preferred order according to the heirarchy of offense I might take to their substance. Heaven knows I, for one, have never, ever gotten things out of order or, when asked about something while i was, say, in a security line at an airport and distracted by the mundane, given a less than perfect response. How could Mitt possibly be so far off track??Originally posted by Northwestcoug View PostYep, at least he condemned the remarks. But they came after this:

Hardly any. I think it’s a compliment to Mitt he’s being held to higher standard by NWC. The scariest thing about the Trump presidency has been the gutless compliance of the GOP. Mitt is one of the rare voices that doesn’t feel the need to stoke Donald’s ego. I appreciate that. It would have been nice if he didn’t qualify the remarks.Originally posted by falafel View PostMeh. He didn't qualify his remarks. Trump's comments were, at very best, xenophobic and at worst stupidly racist. The things that Omar and the other 'squad' members have said are sometimes inexcusable and often carelessly anti-american. All of these conclusions can be true, all at once, regardless of the order in which they are discussed or mentioned.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostHardly any. Regarding the qualifying the remarks, I'm okay with it. He doesn't need to agree with their politics. He (apparently) agrees with many other Americans and thinks what this Squad is doing is hurtful to the country. He also recognizes that Trumps response was deplorable. There is space in the middle, I think.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

After thinking about this a little, I’m going to walk back on my level of criticism. I’m glad that he did condemn the remarks. My criticism was based more on what I thought his response should be, and my disappointment of him not unloading both barrels on Trump. But I still think Romney should be more proactive fighting the stereotype of him."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd.
