McKay Coppins has a nice writeup on Cox after the assassination. It wasn't behind a paywall when I accessed it from a facebook post:

    https://www.theatlantic.com/politics...7ON7SAqr2zlgXg

He has some thoughtful things to say. And this pithy statement should be a rallying cry for everyone to tackle online radicalization:

The worst of humanity is in our pockets.
And since Trump permeates everything in today's society, of course he called Cox and made it political:

You know, the type of person who would do something like that to Charlie Kirk would love to do it to us,” Cox says Trump told him. Trump went on to recite statistics suggesting that the presidency was “one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet.
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."
"You are an intemperate, unscientific poster who makes light of very serious matters.”

My class this evening featured a panel of Jim Steyer, Laurene Powell Jobs, Tom Friedman, and Nicolas Kristof, all Democrats but fairly objective. All of them were highly complimentary of Cox and they showed a portion of his 60 Minutes interview yesterday and his conversation with NM Gov.Grisham (a Dem.), and discussed howour nation needs a lot more of those types off people and a lot less of those in D.C. They said Vance should be losing sleep over the prospect of a Cox presidential run. But i think they're very wrong, as our lousy nomination process pretty much guarantees a moderate like Cox will never get the nod. I think Cox himself has acknowledged that.

Yeah he doesn’t have a prayer. Sadly.

By the way, Ezra Klein had Spencer Cox on as a guest on his podcast a week or two ago. It was a great interview.

This is a populist moment in American politics (and in the western world), that will need to burn itself out before someone like Cox has a chance. The entire GOP apparatus is controlled by populists. That will ensure a populist is on the ballot in 2028. I also fear that the DNC could become captured by their populists by then as well.
