Exactly - both statements are not true.

Perhaps a more clear statement - the Dems would like you to believe that all Trump voters were racist misogynists. They were not. Trump would not have been elected if the only people voting for him were racist misogynists.

A little - but not much.

I know plenty of people who were Mitt fans, but jumped on the Trump train due to Trump hitting back.

Mitt gets lambasted for having a dog kennel on the roof of his car and telling people at a fundraising dinner that they have no chance with 47% of voters and need to get the other 53%. Agree or disagree with Mitt - they weren't cracking on him for his politics, they were going after his character.

So when Trump doesn't take it and punches back - parts of the GOP who have watched the Dems hit the GOP time after time decide that they love Trump's response.

Unlike what many of the left believe, Trump didn't get elected because the GOP is full of racist misogynists. He got elected because they loved that he had fight and they were tired of the Dems characterizing them as evil selfish idiots.

But now the Daily Show, Samantha Bee, Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel and a bunch of other wannabes don't really tell jokes any more. The formula is say something someone on the right did, make a funny face, and then the audience claps with some laughter mixed in. John Oliver is still ok but I maintain that if he had an American accent he wouldn't have a career (same with Richard Brand). The right doesn't even have comedians. I can't think of a single one that makes me laugh.

Your list of comedians is a good one and I agree I think they are good because they don't JUST do politics. They do funny which sometimes veers into politics.
jon stewart has/had a very ideological bent.

And that is one reason why the onion is funny and the Babylon Bee mostly not funny. Even though the onion probably mirrors its biggest demographic politically, it can still make fun of both sides. And have plenty of room for non-political issues.
