Ted, while awaiting your answer to my earlier question, I'm puzzled that you seem to equate the personal failings by the son of an out-of-office politician with those of the President of the United States. If that's the best you (or other Trump apologists) have, Pence can start measuring for curtains in the Oval Office.

Not even germane to the discussion. Just more blah, blah, blah.
        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Didn't you see I quoted the article? Of course, I read it. It was very entertaining.

I, for one, would love Pence as my President.

            • Trump was a corrupt, bigotted mobster before becoming POTUS, and has remained one. This is not new behavior from this guy. He makes cash money-laundering for Russians and Saudis using real estate. He is a tax cheat. He rules by intimidation and cruelty, he perves on women, including underage pagent contentestents. None of what's coming out surprises me, but I continued to be astounded by the willingness of Vichy republicans to protect him from scrutiny.

Another unrelated whistleblower for Trump to deal with.

While President Donald Trump currently has his hands–and the Department of Justice–full with allegations of impropriety vis-à-vis the Ukraine-phone-call-whistleblower-complaint-cover-up scandal, there is reportedly another whistleblower and concomitant complaint waiting for the 45th president in the wings.

A little-noticed court filing from August contains a shocking allegation made by a disgruntled Internal Revenue Service (IRS) employee: that President Trump attempted to interfere with some aspect of the agency’s mandatory presidential audit system.

That court filing includes a letter authored by House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal (D-Mass.) which is addressed to Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and describes the situation thusly:

On July 29, 2019, the Committee received an unsolicited communication from a Federal employee setting forth credible allegations of “evidence of possible misconduct”-specifically, potential “inappropriate efforts to influence” the mandatory audit program.

House Democrats were apparently already worried about such an improper use of presidential power in the abstract.

“This is a grave charge that appreciably heightens the Committee’s concerns about the absence of appropriate safeguards as part of the mandatory audit program and whether statutory codification of such program or other remedial, legislative measures are warranted,” the letter continues.

Beyond general concerns, however, Democrats now claim to have some undisclosed–but specific–information supporting that belief. And they seem to think the Trump Administration is lying about it.

              The Neal-Mnuchin letter continues:

The Committee has raised these concerns repeatedly, both in prior correspondence as well as at the June 10 briefing with staff from both Treasury and the IRS. Commissioner [Charles] Rettig, in his May 17, 2019 letter, responded that the “concern that IRS employees could be subject to undue influence when conducting mandatory audits of a President’s tax returns” is “unfounded.” The allegations received by the Committee cast doubt on this statement and underscore the pressing need for complete and meaningful oversight of the mandatory audit program.

As a result of that IRS whistleblower complaint, Neal requested “a rolling production of documents and communications of specified Treasury and IRS employees.”

Mnuchin was sent the letter on August 8 and given a deadline of August 13 to reply–which he did. In his response, Mnuchin declined to cooperate with Neal’s request and said he referred the matter to the Treasury Department’s Office of Inspector General (OIG).

Like I said, not germane to this discussion.

Please start a new thread to discuss Bad Joe Biden and his Evil Son Hunter and other stuff. I'm happy to do that for you if you prefer.

Well, then, I'll just assume you agree that the essay and its author represent the zenith in imbecilic reasoning. Think about it, if the quoted language ("As it turns out, Mitt’s national security advisor for his failed 2012 campaign sits on the board of directors for “Burisma.”) is enough to condemn or dismiss Mitt, then what shall we say of Trump? Just focusing on the past couple of years, he has had several advisers actually convicted of crimes for wrongdoing (Flynn, Gates, Manafort, Papadopolous, Cohen, I'm not sure who else). And that's just in the past three years. Imagine compiling a list of everyone Trump has associated with who has been convicted or disbarred for things far worse than sitting on the board of a shady foreign corporation (Roy Cohn, your honor, and the prosecution rests).

But then, the author mocked Mitt's fake tan. It's nice that Trump has allowed his natural orange hue and raccoon eyes shine forth. He'll probably take on Mitt's hair next.

I am convinced that the United States, the national zeitgeist, and the world would be far better off if we were in the second term of Mitt instead of the first term of Donald.

Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

                          • Come on Ted, I don't have the energy to try and fill the libertarian void on this site that you have left. Trump is awful and has undoubtedly committed impeachable acts. Just like Obama and Bush before him. I just think it's sad that the only difference between impeaching political elites and impeaching Trump is that he is such an immense asshole and doesn't know how the rules to the political game that the elites created. I truly believe that Trump has done LESS damage to the country than Bush (iraq) and Obama (weaponized identity politics), but only because he Is so dumb and incompetent to accomplish his despicable beliefs. He is clearly not fit to be president. But the only thing that has brought attention to the bad deeds done by the executive, is the media's hate for Trump. I really wish all corrupt behavior would have a light shown in it. Even if it's likable cool guy Obama.

                            • As Republicans Face Impeachment Dilemma, Romney Is a Lonely Voice of Concern

Mitt is the moral compass of Senate Republicans. They need to take a hard look and find their inner goodness.

Others, on the other hand . . .

Some of his more pro-Trump colleagues are already voicing irritation at Mr. Romney, who they believe is overreacting to the revelations about the president’s dealings with Ukraine.

“I’m very troubled by anybody that’s looking for an excuse to see the downside in this” said Senator David Perdue of Georgia, repurposing Mr. Romney’s word. The Utah senator, he said, has “an ax to grind.”
ESAD David "I pluck chickens" Perdue!

                              Mitt Happens!!!
