Moderate checking in here. Trump was a moron long before he ran for president and I think much good can come of an impeachment trial and investigation. There is also a good chance that the Dems screw up the whole thing.

Most moderates think Trump has been a moron since the election but they also think this last-minute impeachment is a big fat waste of time.

So we had a crazed mob invade the Capitol screaming that they wanted to kill the VP and kill or hold other members of Congress hostage. Cops are assaulted and some people die. Thankfully bombs at multiple locations don't go off. The entire House and Senate are able to get to secure locations within 1 or 2 minutes of the mobsters breaking into the House and Senate chambers, posibly just barely avoiding a real massacre or a hostage situation at best. Afterwards they all brag about it online and say it was ordered by the President. Trump sits and watches it on TV from the White House, reportedly enjoying it and waiting for HOURS before sending help to stop it. Then almost sll of his advisers resign by that night.

Everyone needs to hear what the witnesses have to say, including those who were with Trump. Fortunately with the Republicans no longer in control of the Senate they won't be able to prevent that. I'm guessing you'd like to avoid that so the GOP isn't dragged through the mud. Bad reason.

Depending on what these witnesses say, we need to prevent Trump from ever holding office again and the GOP can hopefully return to being a reasonable party. I think that's the least we're owed as citizens for watching those Trumpists try to destroy our legislative branch.

Trump will look horrible from it, and even if not enough Republicans vote to convict, the GOP will lose the support of almost all moderate and non-crazy voters. On top of that you'll have investigations and criminal cases going on around the Capitol attack, none of which will make the GOP or Trump fanatics look good.
