That's great. Calling out "call out culture/cancel culture".Originally posted by Lost Student View Post
Working my way through Haidt's "Coddling of the American Mind". "The Righteous Mind" was a presentation of information about the current state of affairs. Coddling is a deliberate accusation, laying some blame on both sides, but specifically calling out the "Three Great Untruths".
- “What doesn’t kill you makes you weaker,” or the idea that exposure to offensive or difficult ideas is traumatic
- “Always trust your feelings,” or the notion that feeling upset by an idea is a reason to discount it
- “Us versus them,” or homogenous tribal thinking that leads people to shame those whose views fall outside that of their group
Different tone.

One of the feel good stories from a week ago. A "need money for beer sign" at El Assico leads to a million dollars raised for UIHC cancer patients.
Now the Iowa student is cancelled because an intrepid Des Moines Register reporter found out that years ago he tweeted a joke from a popular comedy show.

And the reporter that dug up the tweet from Carson King is now under fire for past tweets:
This mentality is so stupid.
For me it brings to mind the scripture from 2 Nephi 28:8
And there shall also be many which shall say: Eat, drink, and be merry; nevertheless, fear God—he will justify in committing a little sin; yea, lie a little, take the advantage of one because of his words, dig a pit for thy neighbor; there is no harm in this; and do all these things, for tomorrow we die; and if it so be that we are guilty, God will beat us with a few stripes, and at last we shall be saved in the kingdom of God.

I agree, unless it’s a case of hermaphroditism or something.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostYeah if you want to have women’s sports at all then you’re going to have to have rules that ban transgender females and those with too much testosterone.
It’s OK. It’s a God-given right to live and work and to marry as the gender of your choice but not to compete athletically only against the gender of your choice.

I have a 16 year old. He does some incredibly stupid crap on a daily basis, some of which he puts on social media. I fear for his future, along with the future of all kids growing up right now. Sheesh.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I heard recently about a football coach that stopped recruiting or having any interest in about 15 prospective recruits because of their social media activity.Originally posted by falafel View PostThat perfectly fits the Chappelle bit from above. So ridiculous.

So I imagine that football programs probably highlight 40 to 50 kids they want to follow and then narrow it down from there. But to eliminated simply due to being an idiot on social media is not a good way to start.
I can confirm that the recruiting game is played out almost exclusively on social media. My daughter is only on instagram, but that is where 100% of her contacts with coaches have come from. First they follow her and she will follow back, then they will DM with some interest. If he shows them some love they will ask for a number to call and set up a time to talk.
Now that I think about it, I hope she is vetting those well. Sounds ripe for some creepy predator.

"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."
