Guilt by association I guess. Though, to be clear I am an American and not a Canadian.

FTR, whataboutism is a pointless and incredibly boring logical fallacy. It requires zero thought or effort. You could program a bot to do it.

Fun fact: it was a central feature of soviet propaganda.

It is only a logical fallacy if it is used to disprove the logical premise of the opposing position. If you read the posts above, that is not at all what we were talking about. The premise was not "Trump is bad" answered by "Clinton is also bad." The premise is "life's losers elected Trump" answered by "they are not life's losers and the immoral equivalence of the Clintons and Trump explains why they acted that way." Just, you know, FTR.
      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I really don't want to re-open yesterday's can o' worms, but if my basic premise was understood to be "life's losers elected Trump" (and inductively that Trump's supporters are life's losers) then I'm an even crappier writer than I had supposed. And if it's any consolation for your anger yesterday, the revelation that I'm a paternalistic elitist had me pretty bummed for several hours. But I hope not to re-visit the issue, preferring to focus instead on my diet, Lance Armstrong and ABBA.

I'm not angry in that sense. More like rhetorically angry. I just don't think the Tu quoque fallacy applies here. That's all.

Speaking of Abba: if you are ever in Stockholm, do not miss the ABBA museum. My wife dragged me there last year and I ended up really enjoying myself.
          PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Stockholm is on the To Do list for 2020. Thanks for the warning.

Seriously, you should go! You will like it. As a child of the cold war, I also recommend you get over to Gothenburg and visit the underground hangars the Swedes built to house their fighters and protect them from soviet assault. Pretty cool, unless you also hate aircraft. I thought it was pretty cool. ANd, if you drive, you can stop at many places along the way to visit ancient norse Runes that will make you feel like you're in a tolkien novel.

The underground hangars sound like a must-see, and anything really old is always at the top of our list. I'm already pumped to visit the Orkney Islands next year to visit Skara Brae (Pompeii of Scotland), featuring a fairly recently discovered, well-preserved village that's 5,000 years old. And tying together your advice with the thread's theme, one of my favorite fairly recent vacation experiences was walking around the underground Soviet submarine base at Balaklava with loads of Cold War memorabilia. And this was shortly before the Russkies annexed Crimea so I was only dealing with Ukrainians during the visit, thereby preserving my political future.

Cohen claims Trump knew in advance of 2016 Trump Tower meeting

Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's former personal attorney, claims that then-candidate Trump knew in advance about the June 2016 meeting in Trump Tower in which Russians were expected to offer his campaign dirt on Hillary Clinton, sources with knowledge tell CNN. Cohen is willing to make that assertion to special counsel Robert Mueller, the sources said.

Cohen's claim would contradict repeated denials by Trump, Donald Trump Jr., their lawyers and other administration officials who have said that the President knew nothing about the Trump Tower meeting until he was approached about it by The New York Times in July 2017.
Cohen alleges that he was present, along with several others, when Trump was informed of the Russians' offer by Trump Jr. By Cohen's account, Trump approved going ahead with the meeting with the Russians, according to sources.

I think it's likely Trump colluded with the Russians, at least on some level. A lot of people just don't care. That's scary.

I don’t care what you think, but I don’t see how that’s scary
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Eventually the Trump spin will be "hell yeah I took help from Russia!"

With Cohen saying Trump knew about the meeting and Trump's knee jerk team then immediately denying it, it wouldn't seem to me that Cohen would float that out there unless he has the tape or emails or something to prove it. Otherwise what would be the point?

The point might be to seek a deal.
