Trump is pissing off far right European politicians now. Italy's foreign minister has canceled his visit to the US. It's like he doesn't want allies. Melonia was one of the more patient leaders in NATO/EU when it came to Trump.

Yeah I'm totally going to believe the algae problem and paint peeling is due to sabotage from some Antifa type. It would be bonkers to believe that Trump giving a no bid contract to his Mar a Lago pool man is the reason for the problems.

Dude, get off Fox. Algeafa was not secretly dumping algae in the reflecting pool. The people dumping peroxide in the water were contractors hired by the government, not some hallucinated TDS mob.

The grass is grass. And the government seems more interested in taking grass samples than in investigating the thousands of crimes committed by this administration on any given day.

I feel that Max's biggest objection to this will be that he and the Dude are grouped together.

First, kudos to Trump for trying to do something about the reflecting pool.

I play with catalyzed polyurea and epoxy resin coatings on a semi-regular basis. I don't believe for a second that hydrogen peroxide had anything to do with the issues. The stuff cures fast, is extremely strong, and essentially becomes like one big piece of plastic when it cures and isn't likely to start peeling up for no reason. It's the right coating for this particular job and is used in all kinds of water environments, including pools and storage tanks. I use these products when I paint/repair guitars, glass/paint wakesurf boards, and for my motorcycle restorations.

It's possible, even likely, that a vandal slashed it with a razor of some sort, which caused the peeling. However, it's also possible that the installers screwed up the surface prep prior to coating. The composition of the substrate determines the type of surface prep. If the pool substrate were concrete, then it would need to be sanded, ground, or etched for the poly to properly bond to it. If it were some other substrate, there would be surface prep steps that would need to be followed for a successful outcome. If they screwed up the surface prep and the coating wasn't bonding to the substrate, then I could see coating failing, although I would think it would be more likely to bubble than to tear.

The whining about algae is ridiculous. Algae was likely to be an issue because the recirculation pumps wouldn't be running until it was full. I'm sure they knew that it would have to be dealt with and had a plan to kill and remove it.

What would high concentrations of hydrogen peroxide have on the coating?

                      On polyerea or epoxy resin?

First, it's doubtful that they dumped even close to enough hydrogen peroxide in that pool to be anywhere near a high concentration. They were killing algae which doesn't require high concentrations. Second, even at high concentrations, it would take longer than a week or two to do much of anything. Keep in mind that hydrogen peroxide is used to clean pools and water tanks and is used as an alternative to chlorine. Any guesses what many of those pools and water tanks are oftentimes coated with?

I'm sticking with vandalism or a surface prep problem.

In your previous post you said it was likely vandalized. Of course that is a possibility, but without solid evidence wouldn't it be just as likely that poor surface prep is to blame? I mean a no bid contract for government work is a great setup for a shoddy job.

                          It could be both!

The Park Service was dumping gallon bottles of 12% hydrogen peroxide along the edges of the pool. I don’t know if that is considered high concentration (the Gemini response below seems to confirm it is)

Gemini seems to think it could have had the exact effect that is happening. Especially if there was inadequate surface prep prior to installation.

Highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide acts as a strong oxidizing agent that degrades, bleaches, and chemically attacks polyurea and polyurethane-hybrid pool linings. While diluted hydrogen peroxide is a common eco-friendly treatment for pond algae, pouring industrial-strength or concentrated formulas directly onto the lining triggers aggressive chemical and physical damage. [1, 2, 3, 4]
The chemical and structural impacts on the Reflecting Pool's lining involve several key processes: [1, 2]
                            1. Polymer Matrix Degradation
Concentrated hydrogen peroxide breaks the structural chemical bonds within the cured polyurea matrix. As a strong oxidizer, it undergoes a chemical reduction process that attacks the polymer chains. This structural breakdown leads to: [1, 2]
                            • Chalking: The surface of the lining turns into a powdery residue as the resin degrades.
                            • Blistering: Gas pockets form within the layer, fracturing the coating's surface texture. [1, 2]
                            2. Micro-Fissures and Water Infiltration [1]
The degradation of polymer chains creates microscopic cracks across the pool floor. Once these micro-fissures open up, water from the pool basin seeps underneath the polyurea layer. The trapped water creates negative hydrostatic pressure, separating the unbonded coating from the underlying concrete and causing it to float to the surface in large sheets (delamination). [1, 2, 3, 4]
                            3. Destruction of Adhesion (Peeling)
If the polyurea coating was already suffering from poor adhesion—due to moisture or inadequate surface preparation during installation—the addition of concentrated peroxide accelerates total failure. Chemical degradation at the edges of poorly bonded areas allows the oxidizing agent to corrode the interface between the paint and concrete, causing the lining to lift off the floor in large chunks. [1, 2, 3]
