Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

That's awesome."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

The internet response to Trump has been hilarious."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."
"It's no secret that the great American pastime is no longer baseball. Now it's sanctimony." -- Guy Periwinkle, The Nix.

I would totally challenge that premise (“the earth's climate is changing much, much faster than ever before in earth's history (other than due to being hit by an asteroid)”).Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post
I think a sizeable part of the population (and maybe even a couple of people here) would challenge that premise. As in, how can we even know with precision what happened in the past? And then they would most definitely deny that man-made climate change is real, or at least not as important as the scientific consensus states that it is.
Also, I don’t know what the statement “man-made climate change is real” even means. Without quantification, clarification, and validation the statement is just a meaningless slogan that folks like you wield as a purity test.

It means human activity is altering the earths climate. Why is that unclear?Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View Post

Are humans exclusively altering the earth’s climate or is it contributory altering? If contributory, is there some percentage or threshold of contributory altering that we would want to validate before we affirmed the slogan “man-made climate change is real”?Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Challenge away! I overswung by saying “in earth’s history,” as who knows what was going on four billion years ago? And I speak not of the amount of change long ago--temps in the polar regions may have averaged in the 90s Fahrenheit long ago. But it’s the rate of change that should concern Bessent and other policymakers, as the current rate of climate change is unprecedented.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View Post

...
There are countless authorities who confirm this, including NASA (‘While Earth’s climate has changed throughout its history, the current warming is happening at a rate not seen in the past 10,000 years”); MIT (“While the PETM [Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum] shows us that greenhouse gases have warmed the Earth in the past, today’s human-caused climate change is happening much faster.”]; CSIRO (Australia’s national science agency: “Evidence from air trapped in ice cores shows that the current rate of warming is occurring at a faster rate than has occurred in thousands of years. Recent warming has occurred about 10 times faster than warming at the end of an ice age. The increase of carbon dioxide due to human activities is occurring more than 250 times faster than at the end of the last Ice Age.”); NOAA; the IPCC, etc.
Why do you challenge the premise?

I'm not wielding anything as a purity test. I'm simply stating the fact that people (like you?) dispute those claims for one reason or another.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View Post

But since the purity test is out there, I guess I'll state on record that I believe that observable climate change is real, and the preponderance of evidence is that the majority of what we've witnessed in this recent age is due to humanity."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd.
