I have a client whose business was badly affected by the tariffs. For what it's worth, I assure you, he doesn't look at getting the tariff money back as a windfall.

    • So he is going to do new tariffs? Trump is a disaster and a dipshit

      • With Marijuana becoming a legal substance across many states, we have not seen any exonerations of those charged with MJ-associated crimes that are no longer crimes.. Not sure if this is comparable but it makes me wonder..

What I think we all know.. Trump is going to cling to these dollars and spend them before they can be returned..

        • Well. Here we go.. Our country is on a never-ending rollercoaster ride that has us all vomiting for the next 3-years..

Trump began his remarks by ripping into the court and Democrats, while declaring, “Today I will sign an order to impose a 10% global tariff under Section 122, over and above our normal tariffs already being charged.”
Can’t charge a dollar. I would have used one penny, but we don’t make the pennies anymore. We save money. Can’t charge $1 to any country under IEEPA. Not $1 — I assume — to protect other countries. This must have been done to protect those other countries, certainly not the United States of America, which they should be interested in protecting. And that’s what they’re supposed to be protecting. But I am allowed to cut off any and all trade or business with that same country. In other words, I can destroy the trade. I can destroy the country!

I’m even allowed to impose a foreign country-destroying embargo. I can embargo. I can do anything I want, but I can’t charge $1. Because that’s not what it says, and that’s the way it even reads. I can do anything I wanted to do to them, but can’t charge any money. So I’m allowed to destroy the country, but it can’t be a little fee. I could give them a little two, two-cent fee.

But I cannot charge under any circumstances. I cannot charge them anything. Think of that. How ridiculous is that? I’m allowed to embargo them. I’m allowed to tell them, “You can’t do business in the United States anymore. We want you out of here.” But if I want to charge them $10, I can’t do that. It’s incorrect. Their decision is incorrect, but it doesn’t matter because we have very powerful alternatives that have been approved by this decision. You know, they’ve been approved by the decision. For those that thought they had us. And they’re saying that I have the absolute right to license, but not the right to charge a license fee. So think of that. I have a right to a license.

In fact, a blockade (which is what he's actually talking about) would be an internationally-recognized act of war.

We need the GOP to actually keep him in check. They've been underwhelming.

Just another example of Trump acting like a childish but geriatric king

My guess is Trump won't let the treasury refund anything. Congress would be 100% within its right to set up refunds and direct when and how they should be paid, but Trump will veto it unless it passes overwhelmingly enough that the veto would be overturned. In such a case TACO. But I don't expect any refunds will ever go out.

Hopefully some prices now start coming down and Trump of course will claim credit for that.

Congress doesn't need to pass a law distributing money. It was wrongfully collected. It goes back to the payors.

They don't have to but they can and should because Trump is going to refuse to allow the treasury to do it. Also the ruling today didn't actually direct that money had to be returned, as far as I understand it. Although Kavanaugh seemed to base his dissent on how it would be hard to return all the money and not much else, which is dumb. It didn't seem like he actually disagreed that the tariffs were wrong. It was 6-3 but it seems Thomas and Alito are really the only two who actually believe Trump is correct here.

I wonder what his customers/clients would consider it.

                      • So I suppose the case will go back down to the district court for an order on what to do with the money?

                        • So are we thinking MAHA is super successful? Because we got the measles back and we are getting weird taxpayer funder clips with RFK and Kid Rock:

                          • Honest question. RFK has been health secretary for just over one year. Is that enough time for people to not get vaccinated and bring back measles? It seems more that this movement already existed and he just adds some validation to it, but these outbreaks were going to happen if he’s in power or not. His impact will likely be felt several years down the road, right???
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I don't know that I want to google this subject for you, but I'd encourage you to. I doubt the impact would be "several" years away at the least. We do know since RFK was been in power it has gone way up. He is in charge of managing the growth of the disease and I'm sure he sucks at that.

                              • During his speech in Georgia Thursday, Trump said, “We’ve had wealthy presidents before, but in the history of our country, there’s never been a president that waived his salary [false]. I’m the only schmuck [true]. I get no credit for it. You know what, I get no credit for it. Nobody writes about it.” That's probably because his waived salary is dwarfed by the vast piles of money he and his family have raked in during and because of his presidency. I'd bet that Trump has made more money during his presidency than the total income of all previous presidencies combined. MAGA's outrage at the hundreds of thousands of dollars Hunter Biden was paid seems somehow quaint at this point.
