So Trump retweets those horrible inflammatory videos, at least one of which has been proven to be fake. His press secretary defended it by saying that even though the video is fake, the threat highlighted in the video is real. Bloody hell, these are the same idiots daily ranting against fake news.

Anything Trump does is ultimately ok because he's still better than our worst nightmares of what Hillary would have been like.

Just watched that Matt Lauer/ Bill O'Reilly interview where O'Reilly seems incensed that "the Left and P.C. conspirators" are trying to rewrite American history because they believe it was founded in White Supremacy-- he thinks that's why we're hearing that word a lot. That's scary-- this indicates that essentially what Fox News has been doing is push back against the White Supremacy shamers in the name of patriotism. The result? Lots of Fox News patriots with strong white supremacist sympathies. Trump capitalized on that hard.

That's interesting. If we're talking about the actual founding of the USA - wasn't that at a time when essentially all of the "enlightened" countries of the west had some pretty heavy white supremacist beliefs? I mean, sure - there were some individuals who respected individuals of other races. But for the most part, wasn't it generally held by basically all white people that the blacks, indians, asians, etc., were all godless savages who needed to be saved by their Christian brothers. Even then - those who finally were enlightened and saved were subservient to the white guys in charge.

I think this is one of the struggles we always see - and it's interesting to watch. That struggle of recognizing that there are elements of our history that are not necessarily things to be proud of. But they are what they are, and now it's time to move on with gratitude for our ability to learn and grow.

There are all kinds of things to point to. Slavery, women's suffrage, treatment of American Indians, most recently we're in the middle of it regarding LGBT issues. As people - as human beings - hopefully our beliefs and knowledge are ever evolving. But we've got to come up with a way of navigating that evolution in which we can acknowledge the faults of an individual while still recognizing their accomplishments. And where we can acknowledge that we've been mistaken in the past, but have learned. And that it's OK for us to learn something new and have new opinions based on that learning.

We don't make fun of the people who lived 1000 years ago for thinking the world was flat, do we? At least I don't think we do - it's more of a "yeah, that was a widely held belief at the time, and it was wrong."

And maybe that's the answer. Not enough time has passed.

And I'm looking forward to Drumpf's tweets about today's acquittal of the illegal immigrant in the shooting death of Kate Steinle in SF. Trump spoke of that terrible incident repeatedly throughout the campaign.

BTW, I think SF and the feds screwed up royally in letting the defendant hang around, but I also think the acquittal was probably the right decision.

Well, I am not sure the feds screwed up. ICE asked that the defendant be held before the shooting so they could pick him up for deportation proceedings but the sanctuary city sheriff refused to hold him. That said, I think the trial result was likely correct on the evidence presented.
