President Trump: Making America Great Again...

There is a lot of truth to that. A few years ago my company partnered with a company in India to get a lot of our programming needs taken care of there. Yes, it was to increase the cost effectiveness. The thing is, the company continues to grow and get stronger because resources can now be applied toward hiring even more people here to even higher paying jobs than what the programmers who were doing the lower level work that has been sent there were making.Last edited by BlueK; 02-03-2017, 12:16 PM.

Try telling that to a recent grad of Stanford who happens to have been born in India. His student visa doesn't apply anymore but he would now love to stay and work for a great company and has the education and intelligence to work in a good high tech job. They don't want to and won't work for less. If the company across the street offers more, he'll work there. Just let the market play this out. If there isn't demand they'll go home. When the government tries to monkey around with things that deal with the economy, no matter how well intentioned, they're going to screw it up most of the time. Keeping them out assumes they have nothing worthwhile to add to our economy or country, and I think that's just wrong.

I actually do appreciate you providing some information. The Post article makes me aware and I will pay attention, but I am not alarmed. I can see how an immigration attorney or Silicon Valley would have a different opinion than say a steel worker somewhere. Both are Americans and allowed to an opinion.
If he drastically cuts legal immigration, I would be definitely against it. Right now I remember Hannity quoting what Obama had said in the past and then telling us how horrible it would be and what would happen. His alarmist song was correct at times, but wrong more times than not.

We can talk specifics off and on all you want, but the general idea I have a problem with is that when you get down to it, it's all about the government knowing better than the free market. It's regulation over business, however you want or don't want to look at it. I guess immigration is just an area of our economy where conservatives have decided they like regulation. I went libertarian in my thinking several years ago, and have a hard time going back to the conservative way of thinking the government is smart enough to know how to jump into one area but not another.Originally posted by byu71 View PostI actually do appreciate you providing some information. And I would agree. But I view the immigration issue as part of Trump's slogan of America First. There is a significant portion of working class America that feels marginalized because of job loss through off-shoring and automation. And those concerns are moving into professional industries like IT. Some may be against immigration for social or cultural reasons but many others are struggling to make ends meet, need jobs, and see immigrants as taking those jobs.Originally posted by BlueK View Postslamming the door on immigration isn't going to help with the problems you're talking about, IMO.

Here is what happens when you listen to the doomers predictions.
This kind of stuff scares off capital, which is an engine for growth and jobs. In my opinion more to worry about than Silicon Valleys concerns.
I and my peers may be outliers, but some of our clients are sitting on cash that is doing nothing. They are nervous about putting it to work because of what they see on TV. Protestors and pundits predicting major trade wars and shooting wars. Healthy skepticism is not a bad thing. The sky is falling rhetoric can actually hurt the economy going forward.Last edited by byu71; 02-03-2017, 12:40 PM.

Of course I don't want to actually see it. That's why I qualified it by saying that it was in a a dark part of me. We all have dark thoughts, but the thing that makes us human is that we don't act on them.Originally posted by imanihonjin View Post

Yes, I understand. The problem is I think Trump's ideas if carried out would actually hurt these people the most. What they're wishing for is going to make their lives worse. They're the ones who can least afford higher prices at the store on food and clothes because of a dumb trade war.Originally posted by Paperback Writer View PostAnd I would agree. I am not going to lie, because you kinda scare me I don't want to cross you. However, what you stated was more than a "thought", you said the dark part of you welcomed it. It is the welcomed part that is messed up shit, even if it is your dark side and even if you don't act on it.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostOf course I don't want to actually see it. We know the guy from years of posting. His and my politics are far different, but my thought was he is not happy and wanted to say something really out there. It's like when I use the full F'word.Originally posted by imanihonjin View PostI am not going to lie, because you kinda scare me I don't want to cross you. That is my guess, but like I said he can't become a top advisor to a President now without getting labeled some pretty bad things.

I would be less worried about the country if it was you advising the president and not Steve Bannon.Originally posted by byu71 View PostWe know the guy from years of posting. Not off-shoring IT jobs will drive up food and clothing prices? Hmmm.Originally posted by BlueK View PostYes, I understand. The last company I worked for did a fair amount of off-shoring, especially in tech support. Customer satisfaction plummeted and churn skyrocketed. The company saved some money in the short term (and perhaps kept broccoli and blue jean prices down?), but eventually the inferior labor caught up with the company and they closed down. Sad!
AMZN and MSFT have a fair amount of H-1B workers. A lot of my neighbors are from India and China. All good people. But they are terrible drivers. Seem to love to drive slowly in the left hand lane. Ugh!

This is an add on. LOL on CNN reporting the polls. I think they are accurate. The headline was his dissaproval is at 53% and the lowest of any President. I can buy that. I am surprised it isn't higher. His approval is at 44% and a week or so ago CNN was leading with he was in the 30's.
I immagine Fox's headline will be his approval went up X%.
MSNBC I am thinking will lead with somehow his bad poll numbers is causing cops to intimidate professors.

LOL That was good and now I can't disagree with you on anything. Anyway for a short time.
