The collective scientific ignorance isn't limited to the US, but it is jarring to watch the highest elected official in the country repeating falsehoods that have been debunked many times.

NYT has the receipts of a scandal that would sink any other president but is just a weekday for Trump. Skirting laws to give no-bid contracts to cronies, pressuring a DA to charge innocent people, brazenly lying about vandalism in the face of all contradictory evidence, and continuing to attack single citizens because of their political affiliation.

And yeah I know it's almost when something like a renovation scandal is brought up when there are so many more consequential things Trump does. But this episode reflects a lot of his pathologies, which no doubt are manifest in those worse scandals.

I don't think I posted about Trump yesterday so I'm hoping Wally will allow me to post about him riffing. But this is hilarious. Previous to this clip he pointed to Zelenskyy and asked 'do you have any questions for President Putin?' It took him a couple of seconds to realize his mistake, and then he did the very Trumpian thing of playing like it wasn't a mistake (i.e. continuing to say the wrong word like he meant it all along, etc.). So then he continued to ask the press if they had questions for Putin :

That's not an unfair characterization of me, though honestly I'm unsure where I fall these days. Linear right-left descriptions don't suit me nor many others these days. i was a registered Republican for 50 years until January 2020, and other than voting for Obama in '08, always voted Republican until 2016. My preferred political podcasts are The Dispatch, Jonah Goldberg's The Remnant, and Ezra Klein. Not sure whether I simply have an open mind or an empty head. Trump and his spineless or two-faced supporters are the only things that get me worked up, often regretfully so.

I think many are in this same boat, life long voting R and then Trump comes along. I keep waiting for either party to go hard after this group but the extremes on both ends won't allow it. I know in this current political climate I'm farther left than I've ever been.

Frankly, I am surprised that this isn't now a quasi-mandatory social courtesy which should immediately follow one's preferred pronouns upon introducing oneself to other progressives? I would assume failure to state that you did not vote for Trump might constitute hate speech violence against someone by now?

What makes it a curiosity is how often you state it. I guess for essentially everyone else on here it's pretty self evident from their posts whether they voted for him or not.
