If you read Conways criticisms, they go far beyond what you are talking about but, sure, I am happy to give him the benefit of the doubt, and assume you will always do the same to Trump's supporters.

Mooch is a little different, he was all in until he was out and then he attacked back. Mooch is just as sleazy and unpleasant as Trump. They should be friends.

Neither of these guys is a sterling example of prudent judgment, in my estimation.
    PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Yes, I know Conway's criticisms have been very hard core, most of which I agree with (yes, surprise. LOL). It does seem strange he would suddenly now offer that he originally wanted to give Trump a chance. Well, he was a Republican, and many people at one time did say they thought Trump would pivot to something less extreme once he got into office. Maybe it's possible he was in that boat trying to convince himself that his reservations might not be correct. Sounds like you don't believe that's possible, and that's also a reasonable take, I guess. At the same time we probably both know people personally who were very much opposed to Trump at one time who later jumped on the bandwagon and have never looked back. I don't think Conway is saying he supported Trump during the primary campaign. Maybe he was one of those who tried to unite with the party and give him a chance until he decided he couldn't anymore.

That's what I was hoping for once he won.

Not shocking at all. That is the same attitude I think 100% of Republicans had. Even though trump disgusts me and I was a vociferous opponent of his during the election cycle, his acceptance speech seemed to signal that he'd be toning down the ignorant rhetoric and I was willing to give him a chance. I think it took him like 11 seconds to shit on that good will. Remember the dust up about him lying about the size of his inauguration crowd? From day one we knew we were in deep shit.

Yeah - I'm not sure this election is entirely about popularity. Trump might not be popular outside of his base. The problem is that this election is starting to look more and more like the last one. Where it's more about unpopularity. Meaning - Trump doesn't have to be popular to win. He just has to be less unpopular than his opponent. And right now - with the proposals that a guy like Bernie makes - there will be plenty of people who dislike Trump but trust him more than they trust Bernie.

It won't surprise me if Trump loses. But it will probably surprise me less for him to win by a greater margin than the last election. Particularly if Sanders or Warren are the Dem nominee.

To win with a greater margin Trump would have to flip a few states Clinton won, and most the states she won are mostly pretty solidly blue. Minnesota, Nevada and NH were somewhat close last time. The rest on this list won by Clinton last time were not. Trump had a lot more close victories in 2016 than Clinton did, so he has more to protect. If he wins I think his best chance is to replicate the same map as last time and maybe steal NV, but that's one of those states that turns a little more blue each cycle probably due to move-ins from more liberal areas. Colorado and New Mexico used to be swing states but haven't been for a while now. And Arizona is
a red state that shows signs of flipping the other way, albeit not as dramatically as Virginia just has.

You realize the post you just quoted is true? He’s not a popular president outside his base.

Is it possible to be popular outside your base? Wouldn't all people who "like him" be considered to be his base?

I think you can like a president without really being in their base. Used to be pretty common for a president during their term to have an approval rating far above whatever percentage of the vote they got in the previous election.

Ha. Knock it off. Except for brief honeymoon period after election and after declaring war, approval ratings closely mirror party affiliation.

Back to the previous point, I think it’s a pretty tenuous position to assert Trump is a popular president.
