Trump seems very aspirational tonight in the parts I’ve seen. Even though tomorrow he’ll ruin it with a nonsense tweet, I’m always happy to see some positive energy.

I’ve followed politics most of my life and consider myself fairly informed. But I don’t ever remember watching the opposing party SOTU response. The only time it seems to ever have mattered is when Marco Rubio drank too much water.

I only watched about 20 minutes of it. But I enjoyed the part I watched. The entire chamber sang Happy Birthday to a survivor of the Holocaust and Pittsburgh synagogue shooting. That was good radical.

It was pretty awesome that Stacey Abrams used a green screen to make it look like she a bunch of people standing behind her... I have no idea what she said, however.

Edit: I do remember that story she told about how her dad had to hitchhike home in the rain but when he didn't come home mom and her went looking for him in the car. They found him walking home in the rain, without a coat. Wow... it was a good thing they had a car.

I heard he lied about how a wall dramatically lowered El Paso's crime rate, even though their precipitous drop in crime occurred well before their barrier went up in 2008. How simple do you have to be to regularly fall for his bullshit, anyway?

I think he only did a half-lie... so it's one of those is the glass half full or glass half empty things. You need to learn not to be so pessimistic and be happy. Maybe you should get a hobby.

Sperry wrote that the fencing finished near El Paso in 2010 dramatically curtailed illegal crossings, local crime and drug smuggling.


Such crossings evidently plunged after the fencing was built (though they later rebounded a bit) and it could be that drug smuggling fell off as well. Yet this claim fails to account for El Paso's violent crime rate trending down long before the fencing went up nor does it acknowledge other factors affecting security including a pre-1995 shift in enforcement strategy and stepped-up Border Patrol staffing.


We give the fencing some, not all, credit and rate this statement Half True.
