Yes, he is. As are you. And me.Originally posted by creekster View PostYes, he is. While his hypocrisy may not address the merits of his position, it nonetheless remains true that he is a hypocrite.

Then we differ on the import of being a hypocrite about a subject you are publicly involved in promoting. Pointing out his obvious hypocrisy on an issue that he chooses to promote is quite different from suggesting merely that he is not perfect. Not all hypocrisy is equivalent.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostYes, he is. As are you. And me.

Help me understand how him owning three homes means that he can't support progressive tax rates without being a hypocrite.Originally posted by creekster View PostThen we differ on the import of being a hypocrite about a subject you are publicly involved in promoting. First, the nature and extent of his hypocrisy bears directly on his credibility, particularly when you are talking about wealth redistribution. Second, it also sheds light, perhaps, on what it means to him, or at least as to what it ought to mean to him, when he talks about these ideas. See, there is a reason why ghandi was such a powerful advocate for his positions and that someone like-Jim Bakker was not. When Ghandi told people they could be self supporting, they believed him not only becasue the idea had merit but also becasue he showed them it could be done. Bernie wants everyone else to be compelled to help the poor in the way he is describing but, in the meantime, he has no interest in living that way. Does it mean we shouldn't help the poor? Of course not. But it does shed light on the viability and efficacy of the particular approach he may be proposing.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostHelp me understand how him owning three homes means that he can't support progressive tax rates without being a hypocrite.

Yeah, Bernie is a loon that was screwed over by the DNC... speaking of which Donna Brazile finally admitted that she fed Hillary the debate questions in advance, after denying it and saying the Wikileaks emails were fake:Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostHelp me understand how him owning three homes means that he can't support progressive tax rates without being a hypocrite.
DISCLAIMER: I think Bernie is a loon.
Democratic Party operative Donna Brazile admits that she fed Hillary Clinton a question before a CNN town hall debate
Donna Brazile, the former interim chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, admitted for the first time on Friday that she fed Hillary Clinton a question that would be asked during a televised town hall debate last year.
Although she initially denied sending emails to a Clinton staffer about the question, the long-time Democratic Party operative now writes in Time magazine that it 'was a mistake I will forever regret.'
'[Hacked emails] revealed that among the many things I did in my role as a Democratic operative and DNC Vice Chair prior to assuming the interim DNC Chair position was to share potential town hall topics with the Clinton campaign,' Brazile writes.

How about that? The Bernie Fan boys and girls can forgive her now, all hold hands the rest of the democratic party, and sing Kum Bah Yah."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Sure, gross hypocrisy ultimately impacts credibility, but does owning three homes really make it impossible for him to advocate for poor people? That seems silly.Originally posted by creekster View PostFirst, the nature and extent of his hypocrisy bears directly on his credibility, particularly when you are talking about wealth redistribution. You're mixing issues. First, we agree that hypocrisy undermines credibility. That's settled. Second, is Bernie's hypocrisy of the type that undermines credibility? maybe, maybe not. I don't really care to argue about that becasue I agree with you that he is a loon. But I can easily see how it might undermine his position, I just don't care too much right now about his rantings. Not when we have to investigate whether or not Clinton was in the Russian's pocket in the campaign!Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostSure, gross hypocrisy ultimately impacts credibility, but does owning three homes really make it impossible for him to advocate for poor people? I would never argue that hypocrisy is not a thing. Just like I wouldn't argue that sin is a not a thing. My beef with hypocrisy in public discourse is that it is such a simple and common thing that it takes almost no effort whatsoever to find an example of hypocrisy or something that may *seem* like hypocrisy. And rather than argue an issue on its merits, people often take the simple and lazy approach of just making an appeal to hypocrisy.Originally posted by creekster View PostYou're mixing issues. After Comey's testimony, we're starting to see 'President Trump' tweets. I didn't know these existed. I suppose they contain more gravitas than the DJT tweets:
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

I have largely checked out, but it is so surreal every time I glance in at what is going on. A sitting president tweeting commentary on the sitting FBI director's testimony to congress to undermine his credibility? Every future president is going to thank Trump for making them look sane no matter what they do.

Yep. Even though this has been going on for a while it still seems unreal.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View PostI have largely checked out, but it is so surreal every time I glance in at what is going on. It makes me sick to my stomach at times. I really think he was only about winning the election and now he doesn't really want to govern. The man is still tweeting about the electoral college?
