    I like it.
I don't think that that is necessarily fair. And that is a great poem, but it is just a poem.

What things looked like in the late 1800's when that was written and what we are looking at now are two different things.

Unless young americans start having more babies, the country will be in a similar need of immigration.

Immigration is great. What happened under Biden wasn’t immigration. I wonder how Canada would react if the USA bussed all asylum seekers to the northern border and had them cross into Canada. After about 10 million of illegal immigrations im sure it would start to raise some eyebrows.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

This is the part of the discussion that drives me crazy. We know there is a demographic time bomb looming just around the corner. A smart immigration policy could be the thing that saves us. But one party resists having a smart immigration policy, and the other resists immigration altogether.

In what way? The poem was written in 1883 as a part of raising money for people fleeing from a state that persecuted them. Immigration into the US was largely unrestricted until 1882, with the racist Chinese Exclusion Act. You had German immigrants, Irish immigrants, Mexican immigrants, Chinese immigrants, German-Russian immigrants. Many of them were literally fleeing state-sponsored oppression. The poem arose out of what America was already doing, and what it stood for.

So are you saying that's not what America stands for anymore?

                Sure. Things are different.

Not in a way that strengthens your argument, though. There are still economic pushes and pulls that lead to immigration. We still need immigrants today, just like we did then.

Granting asylum, IMO, is one of the hallmarks of a great country. I used to do pro bono work for asylum seekers and loved it. Especially when they were truthfully at risk in their home country.

One of the most rewarding experiences of my professional life was a pro bono asylum case.

No. Not a fan. But the administrative judges were very quick to send them packing.

My client was a 7 year old girl who's drug kingpin father disappeared the girl's mother when she wanted to get a divorce. The girl's grandmother brought her here seeking asylum due to death threats from the cartel.

But they were probably lying about that.

Before the newest rebranding did anyone not tell him that 'SI' has a negative connotation?

Also, you're a grown-ass man. Trump will be gone in 2 years. Your dignity, or lack thereof, will endure.
