The pundits missed this election because most of the "elite" only heard the message that Trump is a pig, because for those who got left behind, it was about work, not benefits.
U6 shows us there are lots of citizens, especially in the Midwest who want to work again. So when Trump talked about that, Hillaryites scoffed because Hillaryites were working. "You don't want work, you want benefits." The Trump voters were middle class workers who are Reagan Democrats that Obama seized but Hillary called a basket of deplorables.
I am reminded by the statement of a New York media type during one of the Nixon elections who was also shocked, because everybody he knew was voting against Nixon. He was so sure McGovern would win. Confirmation bias on steroids.

Romney actually got more votes.

Where many are getting this wrong is that this election was tipped by the rednecks, factory workers, unemployed, and the uneducated. What tipped this election were those the pollsters couldn't reach which were teachers, businessmen, lawyers, doctors, and housewives who are tired of the status quo and voted accordingly. They did it under the radar and managed to avoid being singled out by those who would shame.Comment
