So Elizabeth Warren has released her economic plan related to how she is going to fund Medicare for all.
https://www.cnbc.com/2019/11/01/eliz...e-for-all.html
Here are some highlights:
So the first item, she claims will raise $8.8 trillion and save companies $200 billion over ten years. We all know that a candidates projections are wildly optimistic, so, this claim should cause all businesses a lot of concern.A new employer Medicare contribution to raise $8.8 trillion, which the campaign says would save companies $200 billion relative to what they would have shelled out under the current system
Cutting administrative costs by scrapping private insurers
Negotiations to reduce drug spending
Better enforcement of existing tax laws to raise $2.3 trillion more in revenue
Taxes on “the financial sector, large corporations and the top 1% of individuals.” Changes in taxes on the investing community and large companies could raise an estimated $3.8 trillion, according to Warren’s campaign.
Warren appeared to take her proposed wealth tax further under the health-care plan, saying wealth over $1 billion would be taxed at 6% rather than the currently proposed 3%. The change would raise an additional $1 trillion, the campaign said. Overall, Warren’s campaign estimates that it can take in $3 trillion for the health-care plan by “asking the top 1% of households in America to pay a little more.”
$400 billion more in tax revenue through immigration reform
Eliminating the Overseas Contingency Operations military fund to save about $800 billion over a decade
Better enforcement of existing tax laws. Uh that is interesting. If this will really bring in $2.3 trillion, what in the world is stopping Congress from appropriating the necessary funds to collect the $2.3 trillion in funds that are just negligently not being collected on? Since, this is $2.3 Trillion in additional taxes, I am sure Warren has factored in the enforcement costs of collecting these uncollected tax bills.
Taxing investment activity. Sounds like a great way to spur further investment!
The wealth tax. Lets presume for a moment that there are not constitutional concerns with a wealth tax. How in the world is this going to bring in $1 trillion over 10 years. All of the billionaires in America are worth just north of 3 trillion. So her proposal it to take 1/3 of their net worth? Sheesh.
And $800 Billion by shrinking the military. What could possibly go wrong their?Last edited by imanihonjin; 11-01-2019, 08:57 AM.

How is this wealth tax supposed to work? DO they plan to take 6% a year until your wealth falls below the chosen threshold? Do they honestly think billionaires will just sit there and keep taking that tax hit each year without doing something like moving or restructuring or something?PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Who are you comes out of the primaries the winner? I know you don’t like Trump, and you don’t like Bernie. Would you would consider Biden? If Warren or Sanders wins, whom do you vote for? The dem or Trump?Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostWe can only pray that this kills her chances. Completely insane.

I'd definitely vote 3rd party in that scenario. Both Bernie and Warren will lose to Trump. Democrats are being ridiculous and completely screwing up the opportunity to capture moderates, instead moving extreme left.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostWho are you comes out of the primaries the winner? 3rd party but only because I live in Utah and it won't matter. In a swing state I probably have to vote for Trump to protect the economy and my pocketbook. I'm still hoping for a better choice.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostWho are you comes out of the primaries the winner? I know you don’t like Trump, and you don’t like Bernie. even in a swing state it's not going to come down to just one vote anyway, even if close.Originally posted by wapiti View Post3rd party but only because I live in Utah and it won't matter. most of that is really stupid but growth in military and defense spending should at least be frozen if not reduced. I have no idea about the 800 billion number.Originally posted by imanihonjin View PostSo Elizabeth Warren has released her economic plan related to how she is going to fund Medicare for all.

yeah not sure how the wealth tax would work. Are illiquid assets excluded? Are appraisals of private businesses or other illiquid assets going to be required annually? Value means very little until it is sold.Originally posted by creekster View PostHow is this wealth tax supposed to work? Would still vote for Warren!
Of course her numbers don't work. Even Pelosi fired a shot across her bow today, saying she isn't a fan of medicare for all. But these are the primaries. The crazy shit gets flung now, and then the inevitable shift towards the center happens. Even if it doesn't, she will never get a strong enough democratic majority to enact everything she wants.
But in the abstract, maybe her hard left views gets the national needle to move more, as opposed to someone more centrist. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so.
