So Peter Thiel is one of the most interesting people around. He's a libertarian, but co-founded the most effective big-brother software company in the history of the world (at least at the unclassified level). He went from Rand Paul supporter to Donald Trump delegate. He's gay, but also a practicing Christian. He's given loads of money to the Committee to Protect Journalists and also funded a number of lawsuits against Gawker, in part because they outed him against his will. He's a Stanford Law grad but gives grants to students so they can drop out of college. He's also reportedly the inspiration behind Peter Gregory (RIP) on Silicon Valley. Super interesting guy.

His book Zero to One is pretty terrific. Recommend it to those interested in the startup world.

Supposedly, Hulk Hogan's counsel, funded by Thiel, crafted the claims so that it would bypass Gawker's insurance. This is going to hit Gawker directly.

Disagree. He didn't force his son to be a dipshit and race cars around Miami and crash/disable his friend in the passenger's seat. And didn't make his wife get a 19-year-old boyfriend. He has his problems, but I hardly think they're all a result of his actions.

On May 26, Denton published an open letter to Thiel.

"Among the million posts published by Gawker and other properties since the company was founded, there have undoubtedly been occasions we overstepped the line. In offsetting the fawning coverage of tech luminaries and others, sometimes our stories swing too far for my taste toward snark," wrote Denton. "Peter, this is twisted. Even were you to succeed in bankrupting Gawker Media, the writers you dislike, and me, just think what it will mean."

Today's bankruptcy filing will surely do nothing but provide kindling to that fiery discussion.
