  • Justice Scalia found dead in Texas

He was brilliant and never boring. Rex Lee loved arguing in front of him. A sad day. Only 79.

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Bill Clinton would make a good justice. I mean, there's that whole conviction for perjury thing, but the POTUS could make that go away. Dance, varmints.

If he nominates a moderate, and they block it, that's not a narrative, that's the <redacted> truth.

Not really. Republicans went with the last 2. Democrats are the ones in history who have blocked appointments from being confirmed. When is the last time republicans have borked an appointment to sc?

Obama is not acquainted with any moderate, but his inner circle may adopt this strategy. It would be a very Machiavellian tactic, and I were James Carvill I would certainly advocate it. However, he will nominate somebody who is adverse to the Second Amendment.

Exactly. Republicans lack the cajones to do anything. Paul Ryan did nothing in the House but capitulate on every major aspect and the GOP Senate is just as timid. The only Borking ever going on is on the Democratic side, yet the GOP gets the label of obstructionism.

It is possible the GOP may stand up for this, but again as Maximus indicates, it may also be subject to a strong play by Obama as well.

                          Well, that was quick:

                          http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/...08ffac1258cf5?

It took only a few minutes after news broke of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's death on Saturday for conservatives to demand that Senate Republicans block any replacement nominated by President Barack Obama.

It took just a little while more for Republican leadership to agree with them.

In a swift statement designed to warn Barack Obama against even nominating a replacement, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) pledged to sit on his hands for the remaining 11 months of the president's term.

"The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice," the statement read. "Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new President."
"There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."
"It's no secret that the great American pastime is no longer baseball. Now it's sanctimony." -- Guy Periwinkle, The Nix.
