Ok then. That's their death warrant, far as I am concerned.

How do you destroy a nomadic, loosely knit organization with no boundaries, infrastructure or even well-defined military?
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Even then, when you destroy them another one will just pop up in its place.

I think I'm beginning to side more and more with Bill Maher when it comes to Muslims.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Yes, no doubt if you kill ISIS terrorists (or those from other groups), others will come along and willingly take up the sword. So no, we cannot "kill it" completely, but we can destroy much of its physical infrastructure and sources of funding. We have allowed ISIS to take and control territory from which it can operate and send out propaganda with little impediment. ISIS controls population, commerce, natural resources, communications, etc. within its territory. We left a vacuum and allowed this "JV" team to come right in and fill it. Its unimpeded success has been a boon to recruiting and fund-raising.

Al Qaida had a similar base in Afghanistan, but with a lot fewer resources and less mobility. What was our reaction after 9/11? We went in and cut it out, along with the Taliban. That didn't kill Al Qaida, but it practically destroyed its ability to operate. It had no base and was on the run. We can do the same to ISIS, we just need the commitment.

I wonder if that was at least in part why Isis hit France instead of the us or the uk. Less chance of full scale reprisal but a convincing show of strength on a global stage.

Likely. We're not going in with the force needed unless we get hit again in the homeland.

So, they got the Russians with that plane over the Sinai, and Hizballah in Lebanon, and now France. Next up: Iran? Or maybe Turkey?

More about geography and European Muslim population is my guess. Wrt to the U.S. anyway.

It shocks my conscience that we've allowed ISIS to operate in Iraq and Syria. This is a direct result of the vacuum we left. America is responsible, and we're shirking our responsibility to go back and fix what we broke.

It's certainly unpopular to go back in, but it's definitely not wrong. The longer we delay, the more collateral damage will be a result.

I don't think that is it. The French are more involved in military campaigns about Islamists than the UK. The French are all over Africa. Hollande is very hawkish. I France's involvement, along with their massive, disenfranchised Muslim population, made it a target. ISIS wants a global conflict. They see themselves are fulfilling koranic prophecy.

Perhaps not, but I commend them for doing something.
