    The shootings in Paris

    This looks pretty scary.

France declares a national state of emergency after at least 128 people are killed and more than 180 wounded in gun and bomb attacks in Paris.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

26 dead, and hostages taken to a concert hall.

I believe France and Germany were playing a soccer game at the stadium which is near where all of this happening.

The updates are coming pretty fast. At first there were 60 hostages -- now it's around a 100.

I wonder why this stuff happens in France and periodically in London, but never happens in Germany.

Any clue on who these people are? What are you going to do with 100 hostages in the middle of Paris?
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Dig your own grave, and save!

Yeah, there are substantial clues. Like coordinated suicide bombings and reportedly shouts of "Allahu Akbar."

Hostages are texting that people are being killed 1 by 1, begging for a police raid.

at that point don't the hostages try to overwhelm the attackers?

There's 6 to 8 gunmen, presumably with automatic weapons. It would require coordination that they can't perform under the circumstances and they probably wouldn't stand a chance anyway.

Edit -- now there are reports of a police raid, though it's unclear it's at the concert hall.

Hmmm. Perhaps. Time will fill in the facts.

Either way it is a despicable act. Assuming this is ISIS terrorism, how can this appeal to people? How are there people in the world who see this sort of conduct and think "I want to be part of that"?

France and the UK don't have the same set of civil rights we have in the US. Supposedly, the muslim population in these countries is about 10% radical and 90% normal. No surprise there, 10% of our country are dipshits. It's an inherent trait found in a segment of every society.

I would suggest that France take every radical imam within its borders and fly these guys to random locations and drop them off one by one -- hopefully inhospitable locations where they have little hope of making it to civilization again. The Sahara is pretty big. Leave no water or food.

Maybe something like this, only without the mule:

France is one of the countries supporting air attacks on ISIS. Perhaps they feel like these people are taking the fight to the French?

The degree of frustration must run so deep that any strike against powerful and elite makes them feel less powerless?

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Because french citizens don't carry firearms. Sorry, couldn't resist.
