Not at the moment, but throughout the '70s he was calling for the nationalization of all utilities, banks, energy companies and essentially all major industries. He's not calling for that today, but I don't think he's rejected the idea either.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostAny time anyone proposes doing something remotely similar to how a scandanavian nation does it (for example, health care) the right screams socialism from the rooftops. It’s disingenious for them to be pedantic about this. Bernie is not proposing nationalising oil companies.

I certainly won't vote for someone wanting to do that. I could see him having backed that in the past.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostNot at the moment, but throughout the '70s he was calling for the nationalization of all utilities, banks, energy companies and essentially all major industries. However, my point is, the right-wing media and GOP politicians use the socialist label to apply to universal healthcare or affordable higher education. They try to act as if those ideas make us Venezualan or North Korean. So democrats will point to European social democracies as examples of countries that made those things part of their systems, the same right-wing voices turn around and shout how, "they aren't actually socialist." It's very dishonest.
There are several things we could learn from European countries if we were less ridiculous and arrogant including criminal justice reform and addiction management.

Nor do I think that BS has renounced his former admiration for Cuba, the Soviet Union, and Venezuela. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.
