Good points. I have absolutely no clue what it would be like to live in the inner cities and deal with the poverty and lack of opportunity. I also have no clue how it would be to be a policeman in that environment where you are expected to protect the law abiders and yet you are distrusted and hated by many of those same law abiders.

A problem far above my ability to state a solution. Sadly it seems the problem is way above anyone's pay grade. The libs don't have the answers and neither do the conservatives.

Nobody has answers because politicians/government cannot fix the problems and that is not a line likely to get anyone elected.

Whatever the fix is, it would probably involve something that would cause some real sacrifice on the part of those being helped. That certainly seems unfair.

As you said, the way to get elected is to promise you have the answer and it is an easy answer.

Do you honestly believe that blacks are really still restricted from access to capital? I simply don't buy it.

If you look at the segment of the black population that chooses to actually have two parents in the home and get educated their levels of income are fairly comparable to similarly situated whites. For example, married black households have an 8% poverty rate compared to a 6% for all married households. Unfortunately, something like 70% of black children are born into single parent households.

Much more than what happened 300 years ago, the more relevant factor is the emergence of the drug culture from 60s to 80s which coincided with the blacks finally obtaining equal rights. Drugs were bound to inflict more damage on the poorer segments of society, which blacks comprised because of rampant discrimination from before and through the 60s and 70s. Drugs and the related criminal gangs and criminal activity destroyed the black family.

But I just don't buy into this bullshit that everyone is still falling all over themselves to hold back the black population. Honestly, how many people in the upper echelons of society, those with money and making hiring decisions are also toothless, hillbilly racists? The highest amounts paid per pupil are in places like Baltimore and DC, not Orange County.

Are they dealing with the legacy of past discrimination? Of course. But I think that has to be considered with the timing of when they obtained equal rights.

Slavery ended 150 years ago. Jim Crow laws were abolished only 50 years ago. Don't think for a moment that just because it has ended legally doesn't mean that white society doesn't still have its boot heel on the neck of Black America. wuap's article is one. Here's another that I think pretty decisively demonstrates that the government has had a strong hand in preventing poor black Americans from access to the capital they need to become home ownership. The HUD has been racist from its beginning and largely still is, thanks to bureaucratic inertia.

ps- have you ever thought why the heroin and crack cocaine epidemics have hit the black community so strong? Who introduced those drugs to the USA? When did they do it and why didn't whites suffer the same way?

Impact on Employment: The results of this study indicate that, all other things being equal, race is still an important factor in the American labor market. An African American applicant’s race certainly has negative effects on his employment prospects on average. Resumes with white-sounding names received 50 percent more callbacks than those with black names. But, regional differences are important to note – for example, in Chicago, employers located in black neighborhoods discriminate less against blacks. Based on researchers’ estimates, a white name yielded as many more callbacks as an additional eight years of experience.
