It's amazing that a single zap from a standard taser killed a physically fit 25 year old man. Certainly the autopsy will agree.

I take it you didn't bother to open, much less read the story?Originally posted by Fiyero View PostIt's amazing that a single zap from a standard taser killed a physically fit 25 year old man. Certainly the autopsy will agree.
Try it next time, it can be refreshing to get the correct information.
Let's get on with the gettin' on....

He certainly sounded out of control and crazy from the 911 call. I don't really know if I can fault the police. They had to stop him somehow. Sounded like he was running out into the middle of the road and that could be very dangerous. Someone that out of control needed to be stopped and no one could have predicted that a taser would have killed the guy. I feel so bad for the poor wife.

There is a videou out there of the one with the 72 year old woman. Watching it made me even more pissed off at the cop. At one point he had a hold of one of her arms but she pulls away and backs off 4' or so. That's when he tased her. Big bad cop couldn't keep hold and handcuff of the 72 year old woman?Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostWhy would they release these to the public?
I'm convinced from the video that he tased her because she "dared him to"."It's true that everything happens for a reason. Just remember that sometimes that reason is that you did something really, really, stupid."

Are you implying that something other than the taser was responsible for his death? Tasers kill people all the time--especially when they are used improperly. Many reported taser deaths were associated with repeated or prolonged shocking.Last edited by SoonerCoug; 06-17-2009, 04:27 PM.That which may be asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence. -C. Her last words to the dispatcher: "thank you". Yeah, somehow I don't think this is the help she had in mind. He's obviously not armed, the cops outnumber him... Of course the dude isn't going to follow the cops commands, he's bat shit crazy, and the cops know it. Freaking tackle the guy to the ground like the old days. Tasers are waaay overused.Originally posted by The Wankster View PostI hope the cops have a copy of this on video otherwise that woman has no chance suing those cops, as you could already hear them starting in with the whole * he was coming right at you* scenario.
Maybe you smart lawyer types can explain how a NAKED man standing by a road with squad cars, lights flashing, and several police onsight can compose a danger to anyone?
The guy was frakking naked for crying out loud, NAKED!!!
Step back, chill out, watch the guy to make sure he doesn't go and lay down in the road, as I'm sure that traffic was crawling by that point to get a look at the goings on, so he wasn't likely to get hit and killed by a speeding car.
I am stunned at the whole nonchalant, cavalier attitude by the police, from a dude they had just stun gunned, and was in cardiac arrest. The whole *well his heart stopped, no pulse* and they are having small talk the whole time, helping fabricate their event of how things went down.
This one is going to get ugly, and it really paints a horrible light on police officers, I for one will take a different approach to police, that's for sure.
The whole thing is just sad.Last edited by venkman; 06-17-2009, 08:44 PM."Remember to double tap"

Three months after his death, Duane Cardall's widow gave birth to their daughter:

BTW his autopsy still is not complete. That of course can mean only one thing: the authorities are pressuring the medical examiner to find a cause aside from excessive tasering, and 15 weeks is not enough time.

I disagree that the autopsy not being complete means only one thing. I think there are lots of reasons why an autopsy might not be complete.Originally posted by Fiyero View PostBTW his autopsy still is not complete. I'm ignorant so fill me in, because it sounds like a lot of assumptions are being made.
1. What evidence is there that excessive use of the taser caused the death?
2. What evidence is there, either way, which sheds light on whether the tasering which was done was/wasn't the least lethal alternative in light of the danger the man posed to himself or others?

Backlog. In Oklahoma, the medical examiner is so far behind that they are still doing autopsies from 2008.Originally posted by wuapinmon View Post(no sarcasm intended here): What might those reasons be?
