I’m no SCOTUS watcher. But if Sotomayor is capable of this, then so is Thomas

He will be hail as the greatest liberal of all time if he gets his some of his conservative counterparts to change their opinions. Most people don't even know who Justice Breyer is. Everyone will remember his name now.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Well basically the surrounding counties will now be responsible for providing all the basic services that Disney is providing now and that a county normally provides. Which will require massive investment and a big tax hike. I think the special district gets put back in place before that cost every actually gets shifted to the counties.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View Post
I know that's the popular line right now, but that position has yet to be litigated so I'm not convinced it's a sure thing. I also think folks who are taking that position are overlooking the potential for the legislature to change the existing laws.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. Only if they were a clerk for a conservative judge...Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostSeems inevitable.
Somebody’s about to lose their clerkship.
Liberal Judges are too soft to do something like this.

I work in a field that is overwhelmingly progressive and today feels a bit like the day after Trump won in 2016. It really is a destabilizing event for certain groups. I do think the extremely partisans on both sides if the abortion debate are unhinged. Conservatives hoping now for a ban on all abortions, regardless of rape, incest, or mother's health are just insane. They are the ones progressives point to as being the norm. But I really don't think it is. And progressives trying to frame the conservative justices as having this viewpoint is also incorrect I think. To me, it appears these justices think Roe v Wade was a bad decision based on unconstitutional or ad hoc justification. I'm not smart enough to know if this is the case. But if you believe that, why wouldn't you strike it down regardless of the consequences politically?
If Roe is struck down, I don't think anyone knows how this will play out politically. I am hopeful that with it being a legislative issue now that some of this hyper partisanship nature of the SCOTUS will dissappear. And I pray the fallout from this will not fundamentally destroy the country further.
