Anybody following the saga of that nutty county clerk in Kentucky that refuses to issue marriage licenses to gays? She has lost at every step in court but still refuses to issue the licenses. She can't be fired because she is an elected official. They finally threw her in jail today for contempt of court:

Thank goodness. I was sure the court would simply issue a fine, at which point money would pour in from across the country to pay the fine, no matter what the amount. Contempt of court with jail time is the appropriate response.

If you lean left, the clerk is satan and Obama is perfect.

If you lean right, the clerk is a wonderful human being and Obama has no respect for the office.

For the record, I think both actions are wrong, and the clerk should definitely be impeached or fired or whatever has to happen to clerks lose their job.

I admit that my own perspective on this situation has, as Barack Obama might say, evolved over the past couple of days. I’ve always of course known that Kim Davis is right for refusing to sign her name to the evil of gay “marriage,” but I wasn’t always convinced that the right path was to stay in office rather than resign in protest. I’ve come to appreciate and greatly admire her decision, and that revelation occurred when I understood both that Kim Davis is an elected official — meaning she exercises the will of the people, or else she can be impeached or voted out of office — and that she converted to Christianity only four years ago. That last point is very important, at least in my view, and I’ll explain why. I also read this fantastic article by Doug Wilson, and it helped me put some of this in perspective. Finally, I prayed about the matter, which is something I should have done before I said anything to begin with.

When I was 18 years old, I worked in a video store. Not very often, but every once in a while, I had to rent out a pornographic movie. Even though I really liked the job, I came to the conclusion that this specific aspect of my work did not accord with my religious convictions. So I quit and went to work at McDonalds.
